Now I don't doubt for one second that I'm going to get branded a racist for this but so be it. It seems to me that the only way the police are going to get to grip with the problem is to deliberately target Asians (it would seem especially those wearing back-packs!). Now before someone bleats on at me about it lets be totally honest about one things and deal in actual facts for a second: 1) All four of the sucessful bombers were Asians; 2) All four of the uncusseful bomber were Asians; You are a lot less likely to have a caucasion sucide bomber. Now I realise that: 1) Not every Asian is s bomber so please don't go off at me accusing me of tarring everyone with the same brush; 2) A lot of decent Asian citiziens who have done nothing wrong are going to feel victimised; but Does anyone have a more sensible solution? I went to New York in the March after the Sept 11th attacks. They had three lines through JFK, one for American Passport holders, one for 'others' and a thrid line for anyone even remotely Asian in appearance. It might be an unattractive prospect from a Civil Liberties point of view but it would work. And before anyone says Richard Reid to me, that was one person from thousands, we have to play the numbers game.
erm If these guys were Irish would you demand the same and if so, why wasn't anyone advocating such a policy at the time.
1 of the suicide bombers was actually of west indian origin. The 3 asians were disaffected and saw themselves as persecuted, how about we implement harsher policies and see if that makes things better shall we.
Be serious ... Are you both seriously suggesting it wouldn't decrease the possibilty of further bombs? A serious and simple yes or no question?
Hang on You've just made a statement about the bombings that was incorrect, advocating a policy of racial discrimination based on skin colour because some of them are bad, refused to respond to my point about if these people represented the IRA and then insulted me and I'm the one up my own arse? So because I disagree with you, i'm wrong. Now you do sound like a fascist.
From a website on the 2001 census: 35% of all Asians in the UK live in the London area - 734,000. That's a lot of checking. Your plan would never work unless you demanded they all commuted in the buff and carried nowt.
More asian data to ponder over. Distribution within England Over 60% of all Asians in the UK live in the English regions outside London Outside London, the single region with the most Asians is the West Midlands (365,000) Followed by the North-West (215,000), Yorkshire and the Humber (210,000), the South-East (163,000), and the East Midlands (157,000) The two regions with the lowest number of Asians are the South-West (28,000) and the North-East (30,000) London population 35% of all Asians in the UK live in the London area - 734,000 54% of all Bangladeshis live in London, 41% of Indians, but only 19% of Pakistanis There are more Bangladeshis than Pakistanis in London: 154,000 compared with 142,000 There are approximately 3 Indians to every 1 Pakistani or Bangladeshi living in London The Indian communities are concentrated in the boroughs of Ealing, Brent and Harrow; Pakistani communities in Walthamstow, Newham and Ealing; and the Bangladeshi communities in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Camden.
I agree - if you have a specific threat from a certain section (in this instance Asian) and even when you can narrow that still further to males aged 16-35 (or whatever) then it makes perfect sense to use that profile. You could have entirely random searches but with a finite resource of the police you have to narrow it down. There is nothing racist about it - it is profiling, in the same way that if they said all the bombers were blond haired body builders than you'd focus more on them. As you said about going to NY, my mate is naturally olive skinned (I think thats the black olives rather than green ones but perhaps more green after a night on the ale!) but British as far back as he knows, he gets stopped now on trips to the US, its annoying and inconvenient but he realises why he is getting more questions than I do.
