TBH I don't think he was ever interested in the Barnsley job. Isn't it strange he was offered great terms and yet he turned it down. To me he was only putting himself in the shop window.
The story doing the rounds here was he was more interested in the Swindon job. Unlucky Tel.

I stand corrected. Maybe ICT could still qualify for Europe.

At the end of the day he stayed with his club and saw the job through to the end of the season, and that was after he was offered double wages or more. If the boot was on the other foot and all that.

I remember calling this one correctly at the time. Much like I did with the berk. Ah well.

I've no problem at all with Terry Butcher. He didn't apply for the job, he wasn't out hawking himself around looking for more money, he was happy with the job he'd got. Barnsley approached him and he was courteous enough to listen to what we had to say. He thanked us for the offer, stated he was extremely honoured to be considered, but decided it wasn't for him. He then gave an excellent interview with Radio Sheffield where he really talked us up, but said he had unfinished business with Inverness. Without doubt we offered him more money than he was already on, but he stuck with the task he was already assigned. I thought he conducted himself brilliantly throughout, he sounded like a thoroughly decent chap and I wish all the best in his managerial career.

Really glad we didn't get him though.

That's exactly how I see it Jay. As transparent a process as you could ever wish to see in the murky world of modern football. He conducted himself in an exemplary manner, and was completely open with all parties from start to finish. I don't think you could ask for any more.

Money is no object to TB, he's made an absolute fortune out of football and property. He's in his comfort zone up there and good luck to him.

I could not blame him at the time for wanting to stop ICT, but boy am I glad he did now.

Couldn't agree more with that. I don't blame him for one second for turning the job down, he had the chance of European football over a relegation dogfight which we were odds on to fail in.

Talking sense again Jay. Fair play to Butcher the way he has conducted himself. I too am glad he said no.
