"I'm really looking forward to working with the board, players and fans at Barnsley Football Club.
It's imperative that we retain our Championship status prior to the Fair Play rules coming into force.
However, I have decided that this is not the right time in my career to join Barnsley Football Club.
The work I've started at Inverness, with Maurice, is very important to us - so we'd like to see it through.
On the other hand I have decided that the Barnsley job is too good an opportunity to miss.
I have unfinished business in the English leagues and am looking forward to getting started.
Unfortunately this start will be made at Doncaster Rovers.
John Ryan has convinced Maurice and myself that it's a forward thinking club and we can develop an excellent squad there.
But John was very disappointed when we decided to stay at Inverness late last night.
We have developed the players and are 2nd in the league, something we do not take lightly.
The fact remains that I'm an Englishman & working with Barnsley, although quite tough in this climate, will be rewarding.
Speaking to Ron and Barry over the last few days has been a real pleasure and we knew this was the right place for us.
Which makes it very difficult to turn the roll down and accept the job at Doncaster and then stay at Inverness."
