No not for me.......

Steven gerrard the man for me personally. Much better experience at being captain. Lead Liverpool to champions league victory.

But congrats to John terry on getting the part (Y)

should've been gerrard imo. has improved so much since being made liverpools captain, being england one too wouldve raised his game to another level.
but it's not a bad choice to find yourself having to make is it?!

Mistake ... not guaranteed a place for a start

especially after the way he played in the world cup.

Should have been Gerrard for me. Proved himself as a captain [European final]. Can drag a poorly performing team with him. guaranteed a place.

Terry gets the nod from me. Been a great captain for Chelsea for the last few years, got the respect of some world class players at Chelsea.

Is it on a game by game basis?

Not guaranteed a place? are you joking? .......

..... Terry should be the first name on the sheet in my opinion, Gerrard hasn't exactly been great for England has he? and there's more competition in midfield for places than at centre half

    Should have been Gerrard.

Might have made him run about a bit!

No one should be guaranteed a place.

England has a couple of decent prospects at Centre Half.

Now there is only one place available.

No ... he made a number of huge gaffs in the world cup games

some cost us goals [sweden] ...

against equador he's got ashley cole to thank for correcting his mistakes.

The problem with having a defender as a captain is that the can't force the game by themselves.

in the european cup final gerrard dragged his team back into the game, a defender couldn't do that.

gerrards also done it a number of times for Liverpool.

not saying Terry is crap, but there are better people for the job. And that's before we go looking into his past and his brushes with the law ... not much of a role model there

Oh I see what you mean .......

.... shouldn't have a centre half as captain ..... how did Arsenal have all that success with a ***** captain like that Tony Adams, makes yer laugh doesn't it? ..... and it's a miracle how Chelsea have won the Premiership for the last 2 years then isn't it with that 'donkey' Terry driving them on ..... and we best take the job off Paul Reid tomorrow, fancy captaining us to promotion last season, what a loser ....... and worst of all that Bobby Moore .... what a crap captain he was, god knows how we won the World Cup with him as captain ..... you talk ***** mate

    Oh dear

Never said you shouldn't have a centre half as captain ... obviously there have been some great ones. Just think a midfielder, especially one in the mould of Gerrard, could do a better job IN MY OPINION

I think that Chelsea winning the league has more to do with Jose and the Russian millions than John Terry being captain. Not sure [and can't be arsed to find out] but I think he was captain prior to that and they were'nt pulling up any trees.

As for taking the armband off Paul Reid ... not suggesting that for one minute ... but who is the best captain the reds have ever had .... think most would say Redders .... a midfield player something along the lines of Gerrard.

Its an opinion and its mine ... so could you explain to me why I'm talking ***** again.

I'm sure I could find plenty of examples of players from all positions [inc. goalie] that have captained successful sides ... doesn't make it much of an argument. Now if you were to argue why a centre half makes a good position for a captain then maybe I'd take your views a little bit more seriously.

Its the same in all the main England team sports.

I am at a loss as to why they have to "name" a Captain.
