...everyone had a look on their face as if they were about to be hung. Think I annoyed everyone by walking round with a smile on my face. This "Christmas Big Shop" thing - I'm sure people do it just because everyone else is doing it, not because they actually need to. Society in general really is like a load of sheep following the rest of the herd, most of them will have a load of these Christmas themed cardboard packages in their freezer in July, the shops are only shut for one day. I didn't even have a basket, just got what I needed and skipped back through the car park.
It's not about the shop being shut it's about buying more than usual in order to feed extended family and friends and people leave it late so that it isn't taking up space in the cupboards and freezer for too long and means that they get fresher stuff as well
Its called greed Todays society is crap They don't need the food , 40% will be binned and they will be back for more in four days after all the shops do close for one day on jan 1st
I was in Tesco myself on Saturday with my daughter and she made much the same remark about people's glum faces.
I think greed is harsh. There may be an element of greed - an extra pack of mince pies or chocolates - but most of it is societies expectations and the morbid fear of having to offer the neighbours fosters instead of stellas if they come round
I had to get age verified on the self-service checkout and said to the woman who came, "bet you've been busy", her response was, "it's been f**king manic, I've had enough now". Yes, she said the F word to a customer - I'm not bothered by that at all, I prefer people to be human rather than put a front on but not sure everyone else would have appreciated that!
