There is no set time you 'need' to get one. It is completely optional and the length of time required to get one is flexible and down to the clubs choosing. Fleming was at Barnsley under 7 years
Personally think 6 years is not enough. I'm sad he limped out though. Bobby's testimonial would be good, just to say goodbye. Would also bring more in I think
Nothing like long enough IMHO, yes he's been a good and popular player for us and but nowhere near earning a testimonial. Gary Fleming was an exceptional (and worthy)case because of his circumstances, as others have said if its just a case of a 'proper' farewell there are other ways. In any case if hardly anybody agrees with it and that was reflected in any testimonial attendance it would actually be demeaning.
Think we're all getting a bit too giddy here. Good player, great servant but testimonial? Not for me.
Unless memory is playing tricks he's mentioned in the past wanting an old firm team if he ever reached a testimonial. We should be doing everything in our power to make sure that happened for him. Ground would probably sell out too.
While that's true, the reason it's 10 years is for tax purposes. Have a testimonial when you have done less than 10 years service and the tax man takes a massive great chunk of it. When you've done 10 years that isn't the case. I don't know the details, I'm just going on what Don Rowing said when we were discussing Bobby Hassell and his testimonial at the meeting last year.
