Just got home. Not an easy watch at the minute this lot. Strange innit, we had enough chances to have been out of sight, and yet I think Oldham were unlucky to take nothing away. That Main lad is the perfect sort of player for this league; strong, not afraid to mix it, and holds the ball up as well as anyone I've seen. For 15 minutes or so after they scored, it was embarassing, I thought - we looked like a pub side. Then the pen and we got the swagger back; could have had a couple more. Williams is the right fit for RB at the moment - I'm sorry that Bree had to pick up a knock to make it happen, but maybe Hecky has learnt something from the subsequent change. Brownhill just too anonymous for me right now - didn't play badly, just didn't notice him & think Scowen might provide the bite & grit we're going to need on the run-in. Reight. Bedtime.
nice report there micky and its interesting for me and other fans who didnt go. yes we won and that i suppose is the main thing now at this stage of the season. but i like to know and hear how we won rather than just look at the result, and this still worries me whether heckers is the right man for us from next season onwards.
I think you can include Connor into the anonymous (generally ineffective) category as well. Thought that Kelly showed both of em how it should be done.
We won because on balance we were the better side and created more gilt edged chances. I don't subscribe to the opinion that a win naturally means we were the best team... but tonight we were. We seemed to lose a bit of intensity for about ten minutes prior to their goal and a bit of composure afterwards, but we had the better chances..hit the post twice and had a goal disallowed.
thanks for that Brewer, and it sounds like sam could have had a hat trick or even more tonight. 2 goals and 2 posts hit eh!!
I guess 3pts no matter how you get them is a bonus this time of the season regardless of how you play. Having not gone again tonight i shouldnt in all honesty comment however the impression i got from listening to the match commentary, was that certain players were off the pace tonight and at times we made hard work for ourselves by either not taking the chances created or not reading the pace of the ball at times thus being slow to react.... could it be some of the boys are running on empty having had the season weve had so far, who knows. Maybe saturday he should rest brownhill and white and just freshen it up a little. Saying that i feel either way we will struggle saturday and i for one dont expect any return from the burton or bum hole games, yes id love to be proven wrong but to be honest feel we blew our chances by loosing to chesterfield even though we won tonight......just my opinion
current form should count for a lot shed, and burton have been struggling for a while now. who knows if they will even make automatic promotion, and that looked like a definite didnt it a few months ago.
2.07 PPG average, 64.3% win ratio, our first ever Wembley cup win and a Barnsley lad. And you still don't think he's the right man for us?
We were far from being great but did enough, just. They outplayed us comfortably in the first half playing a 451 formation. They had an extra man in midfield and created numerous overlaps and got men in good positions but were unable to capitalise. Second half for some reason they went 442 and it helped our midfield two no end. We look better with Watkins in the side wherever he plays and I think I'm in the minority of one who thought James Bree was doing ok
Hehe, as much as I think Brownhill is a superb player last night he was dog for me. As soon as Williams came on he shut down their left flank. He defends first and foremost - we have enough forward options at the minute so happy to see defenders defend.
If Brownhill doesn't play in the premier league I'll exhume the corpse of Margaret thatcher and bum it on the town hall steps.
