My daughter loved it. The tour covered all the stadium and the kids had a chance to walk out of the tunnel like the players. They then received a certificate and met Watkins, Hourihane and Davis for photos and autographs. My daughter hasn't enjoyed the football recently for obvious reasons but thought this morning was 'awesome!' So thank you BFC and Barry Murphy for reigniting the dimming spark of her enthusiasm. I'm sad enough to admit I really enjoyed it too and I touched Rev Preedy's wooden desk for good luck for the rest of the season.
Agreed. Barry Murphy was brilliant as tour guide. His enthusiasm & knowledge shone through. Enjoyed it myself along with the lad. You don't appreciate how good the stadium looks u till you look at it from the west stand. Also the feel you got from walking out of the old tunnel seemed better than walking out from the corner. Barry said the same. Said the feeling you got from walking out of tunnel from the west stand was immense. Great afternoon all round
Agreed. My lads a bit older and usually 'too cool for school' but even he was thrilled to be in the inner workings of Oakwell. Players had gone when we were there but I bumped into LJ outside the Ponty and had a chat. Heading off to his daughters Halloween party. I mumbled summat about Saturday afternoons being scary enough. Actually no, I didn't.....just said I liked his fancy dress. Anyway, yes, the tour. Barry - top man. We even bumped into Norman in the laundry room! Well done to the club for offering the trip. You can borrow my son if you like, JD. He's 28, lives in Chester with his girlfriend, is 6'8" and works in a Bureau De Change so won't need any maths lessons!
Not so little, she's 9 now, but she beamed from ear to ear all way round. Meeting the three players was the icing on the cake...for me anyway! The certificates were a great idea too; she was really proud of hers with the 3 autographs!
These should be a regular thing for anyone, not just kids. I would LOVE to see behind the scenes and all the club memorabilia. Football grounds are special places for their fans, so why not open the doors a bit? I even enjoyed a brief tour of the Keepmoat a couple of months ago when we had a teenage visitor who is a One Direction fan and wanted to see where Lewis Tomlinson "played"
And it seems two minutes ago that your little girl was selling those wrist bands for charity in the Outpost and look at what she's doing now! Time really does fly. It's been a while since Scarlett had so much fun at Oakwell.
Laura subscribes to New Scientist and I insist she keeps them scattered around our house, so I can claim to any visitors they're all mine. Does Scarlett have a favourite player now that Peter Ramage has left?
Sam Winnall is a favourite and she likes Connor too, but she would be happy just to see some goals and a few wins to keep her interest. It's not asking a lot really when you're only 9. I can still picture Laura in the Outpost at her persuasive best!
She wants to see goals AND wins??? Tsk, kids today! Laura is now very quiet and modest, just like her Dad. Thankfully, she takes after her Mum for her caring, compassion and brains.
She is lucky to have such good role models, you must be very proud of her. Scarlett has resigned herself to the fact that being a Barnsley fan is 90% tedium and 10% excitement so she just has to bear it like we all do.
