For coming along to Redfearn's Bar tonight. Those that attended will agree it was fantastic to hear what they had to say. There aren't many Clubs where the Owner, CEO and Manager will come and talk so openly fans so openly.
very openly open. i know, its late and i didnt sleep much last nihjt either.I think it was an experience shared by most
I echo that mate and thanks to the Trust for putting it on for us. PC and BM touched upon the unconstructive criticism that certain people on here love to spout and, whilst I agree with them, I do hope they realise that this mainly comes from the same 7 or 8 posters who seem to take pleasure in moaning at every opportunity and that this tiny minority are not representative of most of the people who post on here and are certainly not representative of the wider Reds fanbase. As you mention, very few clubs have the openness of ours and PC and BM have always been approachable, as Don Rowing was previously. Some people are not interested in constructive discussion though and prefer to spout their bile on here. I would hazard a guess that none of the regular culprits of this bothered to attend tonight, where they had the opportunity to ask PC or BM any question they desired. But I am sure they are looking forward to the next defeat so that they can pick up where they left off (before the wave of good feeling after the Everton match caused them to disappear for a short while). But I really do wish that PC and BM could rise above it and treat the trolling numpties with the contempt that I do and realise that 99% of Reds fans have the interests of the club at heart. It is such a shame that PC's son has been put off taking over from his dad and I really hope he reconsiders, because the input of PC is as important as anybody in the history of our club and we will always be indebted to him. I worry about what will happen when PC walks away, but would sleep much sounder if I thought that the incoming 'custodian' shared his values, as I am sure his son would. I totally agree with the direction that PC is trying to take the club, in that we are trying to stay within our means and are trying to make the club self sufficient. Promotion is not the be all and end all for me. I just want the club to continue being there for me and my kids to continue watching football and throwing money at players to try getting promoted is a fast track to disaster. The way we are recruiting and the character of the players coming in is exactly what the club needs and long may it continue. And a word on Johnson, who I managed to grab a quick word with at the end. What a great job he is doing. He speaks so intelligently about the game and the club and is the perfect man for what PC and BM are trying to achieve. The explanation he gave about the recruitment process tonight should be typed up and used as his programme notes, so those who are demanding "proven goalscorers", "experienced Championship players" and so forth can understand that we are taking player recruitment far more seriously than we have done in the past. We are working to a plan and the days of signing people like Keith Treacy and Leroy Lita in a last minute panic are hopefully behind us. So much thought and work is done by LJ and his team before players are brought in that we can be confident that the players being signed will be great additions to the squad. This is proved by the longer contracts that we are signing players on this season. Anyway, this is a rambling way of saying that I'm impressed with the efforts of PC, BM and LJ and we should all get behind them, because we proved on Wednesday night that when the club, the players and the fans all pull together Oakwell is a fantastic place to be.
Excellent post G.O. I really hope the likes of BM and PC don't take the views of a few members of a forum seriously. They must know every clubs has a handful of such people.
That's a terrific post. For a long time I have been critical of the negativity and venom on this board directed at not only the players but the management of our club. Freedom of speech is all but, as we all know, it does get out of hand at times. Some would argue that the criticism only surfaces because people care. In my opinion it surfaces because people are impatient and unwilling to take the bad times with the good. I'm sick of preaching the same old message knowing that we'll never win over the doom-mongerers but I guess I'm getting on my soap box again because I actually care. I care that the group of people(management and players) who are so intent on making this club great again read this board. Others won't care and have said so. Those "others" say that the players and management team are paid enough to cope with the stick. ****** to the lot of you. Think before you post. As an example, I wonder whether Stonesy will be as keen to stay at Everton now after all the ****** from last night? Our young group of lads are clearly passionate about this club. Our manager is building and he will prove he can do it. I'm not pleading for happy clapping. Yet again I'm preaching for patience and understanding and a bit of faith. If we lose at Rochdale and then lose the next home game I'll be pissed off but I'll still show the faith. Why? Because I know and have confidence in this management team to turn things around. Let's hope all the newly converted can demonstrate the same consistency of support and show that we are truly behind this group. Now that would really be a football revolution.........."Amazing support from Barnsley fans as their team loses two games in a row". Oh and look......there's a pink pig flying through the clouds. If anyone feels annoyed by my tone in this post...good. I couldn't give a flying ****. It's about time some of the trolls out there took some responsibility and recognised that words can hurt and they can also affect performance . For any of you who might consider looking inside and think "mmmm mebbe that soft **** is talking about me" then think twice before you start slating off any of your current targets.......please. Rant over for fux sake.
Didn't attend the meeting but echo Gally's sentiments. Its obvious they care passionately about the club and lets hope everything is in place to drive the club forward and bring the good times back! 3 Points tomorrow to keep this Love In going
Your Post Talks the Talk Lets hope the Players and Manager can Walk The Walk Actions speak louder than words. The attendance of PC BM and LJ at last nights meeting deserves huge praise. Lets hope their vision for the club comes to fruition. Onwards and Upwards!!! You Reds
I'm not a critic of Patrick Cryne and hope he stays around for the long term , much rather have a local business man who cares about the club running it than a fly by night ten Bob. Millionaire coming in who hasn't got the best interest of the club at heart. But the board need to be less touchy about criticism and keyboard warriors so to speak. They seem to spend too much time worrying about 20 or so people moaning on social media than they need to . Very rarely are there any boos at Oakwell and and there are thousands of fans who will turn up week in week out without criticising what they are trying to achieve. Also the statement about LJ being his last manager he chooses to employ is a bold one. Even 12 months in football is a long time. Anything could happen. We might go on a 30 game losing streak God forbid or he could have a big fall out with LJ. He doesn't know what will happen and I appreciate he's trying to give the Coach his 100% backing but you just don't know what is going to happen in the future so a bit naive to make statements like this. As for fans criticising other fans for having different opinions on social media well message boards, Twitter and Facebook are open platforms for anyone to speak to give their views whether they are valid , different from the norm or unhinged and long may they continue but people with different opinions shouldn't be shot down and sworn at for thinking different. We'll done PC for your openness and willingness to engage with BFC fans.
I live far away and don't see any games live so I have no reason to criticise, but I suppose I have in the past, human nature I guess, but I don't think I can be classed as a Troll. All I have to say on their behalf is that I believe some of the harsh criticism is due to the frustrations of recent seasons and some people need time to see the sunlight now flooding into the clearing after the storm of so many disappointments. Give the Trolls some time, im sure they will come right soon. After all they care as well.
Great Post Cross Tyke. It's all well and good slagging off fellow posters but it ain't been a bed of roses at Oakwell for a while hence the frustration displayed on this forum. Some people on here cannot bear any criticism of the club at all despite the dross over the last few seasons. One game at a time and fingers firmly crossed!!!
Great event and good to see some new faces in Redfearns bar. I wasn't sure what to expect last night. But was pleasantly surprised by how open and honest the guys were. Especially PC! I left full of admiration for support he has given to our great club these past few years. Thank you. LJ's comments regards player recruitment, training and vision for our club all very interesting.
Let's be honest. The last 10 to 15 years as a Barnsley fan have been pretty hard going. It's been a downward spiral since losing the play off final. With the notable exceptions of a cup semi final, sneaking up through the play offs and one great survival battle. BUT......this is Barnsley we support. Our whole history has been fairly pedestrian. But it's in our blood and the highs are intoxicating because they come so rarely. It makes me angry when people on here moan and create about the Board, management etc and pour out vitriol because we're not playing champagne football every match. Get a grip, this is what life is like as a proper football supporter. If you want to see a team play like Barcelona every week...get a sky subscription and WATCH Barcelona every week! I'm not immune from criticising. I berated Simon Davey in the past. Thought he was a complete buffoon. But our success is always going to be cyclical. We can't buy it. Even less so now than in the past. The approach we now have of buying and developing young talent is the only possible way that we can hope to compete with our traditional peer group plus the ten or so nouveau riche clubs like Bournemouth who are now playing above their natural level. I can see a plan is there. It's a sensible one. I like the look of the manager, he talks sense. I like the openness of the owner, Ben Mansford and Lee Johnson. For heaven's sake stick with them and have some patience. And on the subject of patience. The thought of PC handing the club over to the fans and it then being significantly influenced by some of the mindsets demonstrated on here (especially after we've lost a match) DOES worry me. Right rant over.
Trolling numpties Perfectly timed meeting as it would seem any criticism of the owner, the Chief Exec and the manager is taboo written by haters/numpties who didnt attend the meeting and dont understand the bigger picture. For now anyway. Results count in football, talk is cheap. That is all.
Re: Trolling numpties There are two types of criticism. Constructive criticism, whereby the critic clearly displays that they have the interests of the club at heart and offer intelligent reasoning to their criticism, and then there's the bile spouted by the numpties, which is just pure negativity with the intention to insult. Surely you can see the difference? The latter seems to come from the same people over and over again. People who want to jump in at any chance to have a go at the club and offer nothing to back up their statements. People who disappear from the BBS when we have won, but then reappear in droves when we have lost. Many of whom don't even go to the matches in the first place. More importantly, people who have a lot to say about the club, PC or BM on here, but never take up the offer to go and speak with them face to face when opportunities like last night arise. They are trouble causers, stirrers and nothing more and they have resulted in many supporters of the club stopping posting on here. For me, they are spoiling the message board and I wish they would find something else to do with their time. Everything for them has to be black or white. They then hide behind nonsense like 'any criticism of the owner, the chief executive and the manager is taboo'. You know the type. I have criticism of PC. I sometimes think he is too open. I certainly think he lets the opinions of the negative few on here get to him a lot more than it should. I also wish that he could accept that not everything that is written on here deserves a response. The best response for certain people is to simply ignore them.
Puppets and the puppet master sorry, not falling for it. Lets just say, for want of a better phrase, I dont go to the same church.
My three'apeth.. Following on from many of the comments here, and notwithstanding the fact I cannot attend matches any more, Wednesday, epitomised what following a club like Barnsley is about. In '67 the days of Winstanley, Evans, Earnshaw 'Spud' Murphy et al when I first came to Barnsley as a teenager, my dad wanted me to support Leeds and even offered to buy me a season ticket but after I went with some mates to Oakwell with my own pocket money and stood in the Ponty End with crowds of around 12k in the old 4th Division I became a Reds supporter. It may not have been pretty, silky, football, but I was blood and guts stuff and often highly entertaining and that is the key. I don't care what division BFC are in provided players commit 100% effort for a full 90 minutes and the game is, more often than not, exciting and entertaining. I am sure we all want Barnsley to be 'successful' but what is that? If the club is financially stable and the fare served up is affordable and exciting (let's face it - that is what watching sport is really about isn't it?) I am happy. Atmosphere is key and playing entertaining football brings the feel-good factor win, lose or draw (preferably with not too many losses). Barnsley will probably never be another Arsenal, Manchester United, City, Chelsea nor would I really want them to be. How many on here feel the same as me ?? I might be 1200miles away but I still follow the Reds. Things I miss about UK? In order.... Daughter, BFC, Fish, n Chips, Pork Pie !! UREDSSSS!!
