Charlton manager Alan Pardew believes central midfielder Jonjo Shelvey could turn out to be a "special player". The 16-year-old became the youngest player in the club's history in the 3-0 defeat at Barnsley on Saturday and saw a shot cleared off the line. Pardew told BBC London 94.9: "Jonjo's performance was a real highlight and it announced his arrival. "He certainly showed he has real talent. We might have a special player on our hands." To be fair, he was probably their best player - only one who played like he cared. Put himself about, worked hard, great shot cleared off the line. Just can't believe he was 16, looked far too big and far too old to be 16!
Aye 16. Looks like a veteran already. I thought they'd signed Ray 'Butch' Wilkins on a short term emergency loan deal, when I first saw him! You can see the lad is exceptionally gifted though.
Looked a decent player, never looked out of place and was looking for ball all the time. When the bloke at side of me said he was 16 before kick off, I thought he was losing it.
i fell sorry for the kid being bald already, hope its through choice not lack of hair, yet again i'd swap being bald at 16 for playing in the championship
Surprised you missed him I had heard before the game he was only 16 and making his debut so watched him a bit. Hard to believe he was only 16 - he was also one of their better players I suspect he has a premiership future ahead of him
