Better than the second half at Birmingham? Debatable, but I think Leicester were a better side than Birmingham. After 10 minutes of the second half we could and probably should have been 5 or 6 up. We'd simply destroyed Leicester. Up front Chris O'Grady was outstanding. I've never seen a player hold the ball up so well, or win so many flick-ons against opposition a good deal taller than him. And he capped it off with a superb goal. At the back Wiseman and Hassell were magnificent, but every Barnsley player on the pitch was excellent. Unfortunately we then forgot how to play football and after seeing some of the best passing at Oakwell for many a year we suddenly couldn't control the ball or play a simple pass. Luke Steele made some good saves towards the end and had us all ripping our hair out when he lost the ball in the sun, but we held on. We should have been out of sight, so the second half was nervous, particularly for JLWBL who I thought was going to spontaneously combust. I hope he's had a nip of whiskey to calm the nerves. Well played Reds, you look nothing like a relegation team and with the way you've played this calendar year it's almost unbelievable that we could still face the drop.
Agreed. We played incredibly well first half and should have been a few more up before Leicester went for it. Two goals disallowed for offside. Dawson's 1 on 1 lob. Missed penalty. Etuhu almost rounding the keeper. Mellis' shot that flashed just wide. Clearance off the line from a Dawson(?) header. Unbelievable that we only scored two and it could have cost us, we had enough chances to win three games. Psychologically you can understand the players panicking a bit given all the missed chances. Leicester also had a days extra rest so we were always going to tire second half.
Top performance Every one of them played really well, but Wiseman, Etuhu and O'Grady were particularly impressive. Good to see Dawson back too. Bring on Palace.
I wish to echo your words - we really should have been out of sight by half time and we let a very poor Leicester side back in with a chance - I think a better side would have seen us giving a goal away at least. We just got sloppy (tired?), and took our foot of their necks, mind you it wasn't helped by another bizarre and dire performance from Der brain D'Urso. Special mention for Wiseman, O'Grady, Mellis and Etuhu, especially in the first half, Mellis in particular had one of the best games I've seen him play.
outstanding performance. 9 from 12, including victories against watford, brighton and leicester. we can do this
