who the hell thought that was right?, really felt for that disabled lad, nice for him to get to take the pens on the pitch but there was no way on gods earth he was going to have a chance, OK the lass wasn't good but at least she was able bodied and had a chance, personsally I thought having got that far was it asking a lot to provide 2 lots of passes?
And that's not intended to be patronising in any way as I am involved quite a lot with the disabled and that just wasn't fair

Who was the keeper? Was it Wildsmith or some random lad?

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who felt a little uncomfortable watching the lad take his penalties. I agree, it really wouldn't have hurt the club to have given them both a pair of season tickets. It's not like we're going to sell out.

I didn't see this so I can't judge how bad it looked but I'm guessing he knew what the competition involved when he/his parent's (not sure of his age) entered. Maybe he shouldn't have been chosen to take part, although that doesn't certainly doesn't seem right either. It seems as if there was no way for a disabled supporter to win a pass with this competition and maybe that was the problem? Could they have done something for a ticket for the disabled stand or just done a competition for anyone that didn't involve a physical element?

They should have done something JamDrop because what happened on the pitch was a travesty. I'm sure when the competition was launched they meant well , but IMHO what it turned into was wrong.

Can't really comment myself as I don't watch the half time "entertainment" but as most disabled people want to be treated as equals I don't see what can be done.

You appear to be making an assumption that the girl wasn't disabled. Do you know or just guessing?

based on her actions and movements on the pitch, either way the lads physical capabilities just weren't compatible with the task in hand

I have to admit, when they both stepped forward me and my mate naturally decided to cheer on the girl. I was half watching and took the mickey out of how poor the shots were until I watched a bit more closely, and then I felt a bit bad, as I hadn't realised at first that the lad was disabled. Having said that, he took his chances with gusto and I can't imagine he had any grumbles with his competition. He was up there, taking penalties at the Ponty end and I wouldn't have thought that he'd have been concerned about his disabilities. He would have just been concerned about trying to stick one in. And as he lies in bed tonight I'm pretty sure his disabilities won't be in his mind, but he'll be replaying it in his mind and thinking what he'll do when he gets his next chance. Like the rest of us would.

would anybody complain though if the disabled fans werent allowed to take part in this sort of thing ?
I think the club have done well here and at least they have made the effort.

I think my original point is being lost here (or mebbe I just didn't make it clear), I think its great for everybody to have the chance of an experience like that, but its all about fairness, same would've applied if that lass had been up against somebody who was bigger or who could play.
If the completion had been to win a chance to take pens on the pitch great! but as a competition to win tickets that just sucked

I feel **** now. I didn't realise he was disabled, I made a comment to a mate that they had chosen possibly the only 2 people in Barnsley not to have kicked a ball before.

If that was the case then it was a definite unfair advantage and should have provided 2 sets either way Dearne FM should have done some research on the 2 contestants
