Police plea to Poles on killing

DETECTIVES investigating the death of a dad-of-three from Barnsley today urged members of the town's Polish community to come forward with information.
Pole Krzysztof Pawel Stalmach, 36, died in hospital three days after he was viciously assaulted.
Now police are asking Barnsley's tight-knit Polish community to help them find his killer.
Det Supt Richard Fewkes said Krzysztof spent the hours before his death with friends.
He said: "We are asking anyone with information about the attack on him to come forward, but particularly any members of the Polish community. I am appealing directly to them to contact us, in confidence if necessary, and we have a translator available.
"I am convinced the answer lies within the group of economic migrants from Poland who are currently living and working in Barnsley."
Mr Stalmach had lived in Barnsley for 18 months and worked at food packaging companies in Barnsley and South Kirkby. He was found unconscious in Dodworth Road shortly after 3am on Sunday, November 12.
His grief-stricken mother has made an emotional appeal for information to help catch his killer.
Wanda Stalmach arrived at Barnsley Hospital just an hour before her son died after a 36 hour journey.
Speaking from her home in Lublin, central Poland, she said: "My son Krzysztof leaves three young children who are trying to come to terms with the death of their father. I would like to appeal for any one with information regarding his death to come forward and speak to the police."
A post mortem revealed Mr Stalmach died from a serious head injury. Other injuries found on his body were consistent with a brutal and vicious assault.
Detectives have carried out house-to-house enquiries, studied CCTV footage and attended a Polish Church Mass. And posters appealing for information, in English and Polish, are to go up around the town.
Krzysztof was white, around 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in, of medium build with dark brown hair. He was unshaven and was last seen wearing a denim jacket, black and red jumper, blue jeans and black trainers with white markings. Anyone with information should contact police on 01226 736346.
Five people were arrested in connection with the murder in November but have since been released without charge.
