can't say i'm best impressed - they were on about hooligans and showed the fan zone vs paraguay and showed a bloody close up of me!! just because i had my head shaved eh eh.

what a joke. usual media sensationalism - i was a bit apprehensive about going to the world cup before hand because of the various media reports but was pleasantly surprised at how friendly the atmosphere was and how well behaved the england fans were. i didn't stay for the whole tournament so can't comment on the rest of the games.

i don't doubt that there was a small minority of 'ooligans, but the atmosphere was the absolute opposite of what they were suggesting it was. dickheads. right , im off to mash up some cardiff fans or summats.

You can bet that the programme was produced because the media didn't get their dose of sensationalism and hooligan news from this summer's World Cup. Therefore they have filmed footage and then edited it to make it appear that the streets were awash with blood and hooligans fighting.
Some people watching that programme last night will actually assume that it WAS a bloodbath.
Pathetic really and amazing what you can do with a camera lens and ruthless editing to show what you want the viewers to see.

    Not suggesting for one second

that Chef Tyke has owt more than a daft haircut and yes the programme did sensationalise a very tiny minority. But it does clearly show that there is a very nasty pocket of thugs that still make it to games despite the banning orders. It goes to show how well the Germans policed it in a non confrontational way, something our own could learn a lot from. But footage of brainless idiots saying things such as:

(having been glassed by another England Fan)
"I wouldn't mind if it had been a Greek or a Paki, but it was one of our own"

    or
(whilst waving around an inflatable spitfire - a chant of)
"My grandad killed your grandad, too ra too ra
My grandad killed your grandad, too ra loo ra ray"

Lock em up and throw away the key.

The programme was most likely commissioned some weeks before the World Cup, when most folk expected the streets to be a frenzy of English, German & Polish fans 'at it'. Fairly credible predictions, at the time. Quite clearly, the tournament passed off without any major trouble, but they still had to make their programme, hence the lazy, ill-thought attempt to make Germany 2006 look like a warzone.

Even the 426 arrests at Germany-Poland were mostly pre-emptive - not a lot of stuff actually went off. I was at four of England's five games and saw absolutely nothing in the days leading up to games. The Irish bar in Frankfurt was just round the corner from the hotel - noisy, a bit menacing to anyone passing by, impromptu games of footy across the tramlines, streets littered with plastic glasses, but nowt else you wouldn't get in any city centre on setdi night. Cologne was the 'worst' we saw - streets around the Cathedral covered with broken glass as the hilarious German fans thought it would be 'a right laugh' to chuck bottles at passing cars.

Funnily enough, the involvement on last night's "documentary" of the HYC reminded me of their really brave assaults on solitary 'normal' Barnsley fans after the play-off semi. Worse than anything shown last night. Well done, lads - really top work. Enjoy League One, you chumps.

Yes, I was at the Hudds game and it was very menacing after the match finished.

I turned it off, it was so obvious they were looking at anything

to put across their case for 'the English disease' as the gutter press seem to call it.

The gutter press which, given the items I have seen on the news lately, now includes the BBC. I can't believe the difference in reporting between ITV and the BBC nowadays, might as well just put out a party political broadcast on behalf of Tony as show the BBC news.

Funny you should say that mate....

I was texting said victim of the HYC last night pointing out that they're happy to go abroad and make a mockery of Englands name, but resort to petty thuggery outside their own ground. And why don't they ever come away and carry on, because they know they'll get a kicking.

Poofs, its easy to look hard in front of 100 others like was shown last night. Back to School on Monday.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to defend the appalling, loutish, drunken xenophobic behaviour of the morons involved (I'd advocate public hanging for most of 'em) but find it equally difficult to stomach such a misleading, ill-advised piece of programme-making. The BBC have a very detailed & pretty strict set of producer guidelines, which every member of staff involved in programme-making is given. As far as I can see from last night's shambles, they just ignored them.

    Sounds ideal

So long as we don't have to do any of that fighting nonsense.

I can't believe it on this site...

I was expecting a slating for the England Fans on here but l respect some of the comments, I was in Germany and can honestly say the only time trouble started was because of the Germans, especially after there games when they started pouring out out of the fan fares. But they manage to find a few clips that can't fill an hour (they have to put in clips of the games) and they're trying to make out it was a mass riot in every city we visited. I like the comment about the worst night of violence was to come in Stuttgart where there was 400 preventative arrests (in other words anyone within 300 yard will be locked up and released later) whilst in Dortmund when the Germans and Poles met there was hundreds of real arrests! Just been on the England members club forum and they are going apesh*t and there's talk of a complaint to the BBC.

Complaint procedure from England Members Club

If you feel the programme tonight (Wednesday, BBC1 9pm) is unbalanced and misrepresents the positive impact the vast majority of England fans made in Germany COMPLAIN to the BBC.

Either call the BBC complaints line 08700 100 222 or visit the BBC complaints website,www.bbc.co.uk/complaints

As a public body the BBC is actually quite responsive to audience complaints. A couple of hundred well argued cases about how tens of thousands of us went to Germany, had a great time, got on well with the Germans, and asking why an hour of primetime TV couldn't have been dedicated to this will have a considerable impact.

    Don't moan, organise!

That crap on Panorama last night.....

If that's all the footage they had after what would have been numerous hours of filming then they were bloody desperate to find something, in my opinion. Even the 'set-to' with the Germans, when the English were on the steps, wasn't as bad as the media had made out by looks of it.
What i did find annoying was a couple of English blokes that were seen pouring beer over some birds' heads , and that annoying twit with the England flag who crapped himself with the Brazilian until his mates decided to back him up!

I sent in a complaint this morning.

I can't normally be arsed with letters of complaint but it was unbelievable how unbalanced the programme was.

They even reused some footage from Stuttgart for the "trouble" in Gelsenkirchen.

They couldn't afford to go to the World Cup
