Nae chance. He kicked it too far in front of him and the ball going out. Would have been a very soft award but have seen them given. But for me no pen.
With his cross put to one side, Rooney hasn't been worth his place in the team, and he has been a defensive liability giving no support to Leighton Baines.
Rooney has got some bad press this evening but I think he's played out of position done alright and got an assist. He should have scored that chance he put wide but apart from that I'm not sure what he's done wrong. Hart has saved one or two shots tonight and the goals they got were of our own doing and failing to get close enough to the Italian goal scorers. Were all to quick to jump on the bandwagon about certain players but look at it sensibly and what more could we have expected tonight? We had a go and on another night would have won it so let's take the positives and move onto the Uruguay game with a bit of optimisim.
Nar - not for me. Shoulder charge - never gonna get that with a European ref anyway. If the Jap ref was in charge - maybe
We could've won that game. We were poor at fullback on boyh sides using a formation that left us vulnerable in those areas. Rooney has highlighted again that he's over hyped, over paid, and not in the same bracket of people he'd like to be linked with (Ibrahimavic, Ronaldo, Messi etc). Also Hodgson knew that Pirlo would make them tick - nobody got near him and he did what he wanted. Another average England team that won't win anything.
I don't think we were that exposed at either full back. How many chances did they get? We can't win in this country if we have a go and the opposition get more space we moan and if we play defensively and lose 1 nil we moan were to defensive.
I think Wellbecks was a pen he was a bit theatrical but it was a pen. I agree with selby I thought Rooney wasn't that bad apart from not hitting the target with his chance, you don't play one of Englands top goalscorers on the wing to cover an inadequate left back...Ashley Cole would have been alert to the quick corner for their first goal and he wouldn't have allowed the cross for the second.
