School's with no kitchens, Sold off to save money. Children are the future. Not for Maggie it seems. Tick tock you bitch, tick tock.
Blairs legacy Not a lot better - now planning to privatise another chunk of the NHS by selling off all the logistics and supply -just as bad as Thatcher - if not worse as at least she said what she was going to do and did it - Blair seems to be following on her agenda under the guise of a labour politician
RE: Blairs legacy Much more stable economy, record investment in health and education, introduction of minimum wage. All good things. I'm no Blair fan but to compare this govt to Thatchers is ridiculous.
RE: Blairs legacy Not saying that is. But it's kids I'm talking about. If Blair wants a worthwhile "legacy", a good place to look would be schools, including ensuring what Jamie Oliver has started is entrenched for years to come. In my opinion, I think the government have "worked with" Oliver on this one, just used the power of celebrity to get people involved
RE: Blairs legacy False statistics. Young can't buy houses. Illegal immigrants. War with Middle East based on lies. Sell out to PC brigade. Devolution injustices etc. etc.
RE: Blairs legacy When do you reckon he'll start then? Hopefully I've got enough nouse to give my kids a balanced diet.
On his legacy? No idea. Probably in this case never. I'm sure you have got the nouse to, sadly plenty of others have not.
RE: Blairs legacy Kids from Rawmarsh have got their fat benefit cheating single mums and absent dads to go to the chippy for them at lunch. kin bomb the lot of em.
However, it sounds like the issue has been blown up and the issue of kids wanting junk has been seized upon by the media. Apparently, they do bring decent food to the kids and it all started as they only get 30 mins for luch and it takes 20 to get served. They don;t bring pie and chips every day, just occasionaly. Does not excude the stuipity of the "low fat rubbish" statement
RE: On his legacy? While I think the whole drive to improve school dinners is a good cause. Wouldn't you prefer the actual education to get better. 14 year olds with the literacy skills of what a 7 year old should have is not good. I'd prefer any investment to focus there. I'm not a school teacher, but I can boil vegetables.
I think... that improved diets would improve educational standards too. In theplaces they have improved the food in a concerted way, the results have shown improvemnts and kids who were previously thought to be on the low end of the autistic scale have improved. It needs to be a full solution. Starting with parents who think it's entitely a school's responsibility to educate and discipline their offspring
well I am no fan of either. but much more stable ecomony? - only as a result of the Tories taking on the unions surely and accidentally not joining the single currency - the economy is actually part of Thatchers legacy - it was in good shape when New Labour came to power and they havent broken it yet
RE: well Surely that should be Major's then? Not Thatcher? Longest period of sustained growth for what, 100 years? Not bad. I'm sure the foundations might have been there, but Labour have definetly built on them. Job creation being one facet.
RE: I think... I agree and I guess in the long term, there might be significant improvements for some. But whilst there are too many parents around that don't give a **** about what their kids are doing in school, the long term problems will continue to escalate. Like you say, that's the heart of the problem. But while successive governments continue to remove any powers to discipline and expel, whilst closing down the schools that were put there to deal with problem children, so they can focus on fully inclusive schools, it's not going to go away. I don't see how it's fair to put kids with serious behavioural problems in with everybody else. It doesn't work.
"She said what she was going to do and did it"? Heh heh. Don't think the Notts miners would go along with you on that one mate.
