Hello mate, I think we badly need to have a good first session else it could be a long series. Let's hope we bat first and don't lose more than one wicket in the morning session.

I don't agree... we need more players to have that winning arrogance - just look at Australia. They're the most arrogant sports team I know - and they nearly always win.

the aussies always win because they have ploughed millions of dollars into the sports programs where as since the 50 and 60s we thought we were the best at everything.we are only now just starting to compete after nearly 30 years in the wilderness due to lack of funding and sponsorship.

Theres a difference between confidence and arrogance,I would say Hoggard and Harmison are confident and sportingly aggressive,Flintoff comes across as big headed and arrogant

Yeah but English sportsmen have a poor attitude and are not 'winners' like the Aussies...

"It doesn't matter if we lose, it's the taking part that matters." - phrases that like breed losers not winners. Sometimes you have to be selfish and arrogant to be good at something. Being a bad loser is not necessarliy a bad thing if you deal with it in the right way.

    i agree
but its hard to create the mental attitude of the aussies because of history we have to make up for this with extra skill.
we will always lose if we are not better players due to the lack of passion we show when competing.

No course you aren't mate... I know that it's not just attitudes, and that lack of funding in sport in the UK is the main reason we're crap at nearly everything. However, being very confident and possibly arrogant is essential if we want to beat Australia, as the moment we show we're lacking confidence or are scared of them will be the moment that the series is lost.

It's a silly comparison but I know I play better at all sports when I believe in myself and get wound up, rather than telling myself the truth which is that I'm useless!

Anyway, I'm off to bed, got to be up in time for the start! Come on you England (dancin)

Let's hope we (battered) the Aussies! bunch of (wnkr)
