They are going to bring in a law that anyone who has to gain entry to an event must have photo id. I take it the ticket will have your name on it too. Its to combat ticket touts

About time they did this; hopefully will ensure the real fans get the tickets and don't get ripped off.

I think its a bad idea

Its the wrong way to solve the problem
what happens if you have your ticket and at the last minute cant go - you cant give it to a mate anymore

I got tickets to Twickenham recently when a mate of mine who got them legitamately though Farnham Rugby club couldnt go at the last minute
Paid him face value - job done - with the proposal outlined the tickets would have gone to waste and he would have been £140 out of pocket
(as we got thrashed by South Africa - maybe that would have been better for me but ...)

Maybe for the Olympics its the only way but for everything else a better distibution of tickets is all that is needed

another situation is grounds like weeds utd have computerised turnstiles

so all the turnstiles are not manned by stewards. they would have to employ someone to check id before going through, i think it's barmy

That would be pretty straight forward wouldn't it?

If I bought you a ticket i'd presumably know your name so they would print the ticket off with "Mr B R Serker" printed on it, you'd go to the match along with a drivers licence, membership card, passport, some form of photo ID and they'd let you in.

I think it's a good idea to be honest

Not necessarily. I don't think that the idea is to check EVERY single ticket as you go through the turnstyles but knowing that you COULD be checked will be an added deterrent and if the likes of leeds suspect anything on a particular ticket it could very easily be flagged up when you swipe/scan the barcode. Don't forget that while the turnstyles and all manned they are still supervised much in the same way that self serve checkouts are at supermarkets.

    Your friend touted the tickets

The situation you've just described is exactly what this has been brought in to stop. If he couldn't go he shouldn't have got the tickets. It really is as simple as that.

I don't think we've got much to worry about.

It says 'high profile events'. I don't think any game including Barnsley will come under this category.

    What's wong with "Ticket Touts"?

Play.com are selling £40 Metallica tickets for £62. Isn't that "ticket touting?"

According to the web site, "Which Magazine" has voted these people "best online retailer." What gives?

    How do you know that?

If it wasn't for the touts there would have been more tickets to go round the genuine fans in the first place

    Nah

Do you think they want to bring in these rules to protect the customer?

Also, if I want to queue up all night to buy a Playstation 10 (or whetever) and then sell it on eBay for a handsome profit the next day, is that wrong? Why should "Event Tickets" be a special case?

Why don't they just make profiteering / price hiking illegal?

We live in a market economy, so we can't start making exception when it suits us.
