The best and worst thing this club ever did...

The best and worst thing this club ever did was getting to the Premiership.

Ever since we have had a succession of managers. One after the other. On and on. Failure compounding failure. And as a result it has been utter pants. Two stand apart of course, Dave Bassett and Mark Robins.

Chairman, Dennis also got sucked into the allure of the Premiership, and his chopping and changing nearly resulted in our club folding for good.

The mantra on any TV football show about Alex Ferguson is that he was given time. Time is the key ingredient, and that dreaded P word; patience. And everyone nods sagely in agreement, but lose a couple, hit a bad patch, lose your best striker, have a few injured - and the collective want a change. And on we go again, sacking and sacking; and worse and worse we get.

OK, things are not going well at the moment; I'm not chipper either - but that's football and that's Barnsley FC. But we were not exactly Man City when the season started. What did you honestly expect - top of the league, hammering teams out of sight, etc, etc.?

Get a grip. Have a cup of tea; most of all get realistic.

I have watched the reds since 1977, and most of that time we have been ordinary and sometimes very, very poor. That is the norm - it's a struggle more often than not, and it takes a great leap of faith to support BFC.

But sack Wilson, and on it will go. On and on. Failure compounding failure. And the worst thing of all; you will still want the incumbent manager sacked.

 

I'm not convinced that getting to the premier league was the worst thing we've done but I think replacing Danny with super John was.
