I've just seen Maradona on the news, the host of his own variety show. The fat ****! not so fat now, as it appears.

Pele was on his show, too.

I explained to the missus who Maradona was (IS, sorry)

I wonder... Which football players were the best in the World. which footballers were the best in the world... not 'arguably'

I can think of two, one is Pele...

    I gotta agree with Bestie....

He was the 'Best in the World' at one time...

I also think Pele and Maradona... (that is the three i was thinking of..

the jury is out for me on Cruyff, Denis Law, Neil Redfern....

For me , it would have to be

Pele . He had everything , there was no weakness in his game . Cruyff and Best would have to be joint second . I may be in a minority here , but I feel Maradona would ( at best ) only be fourth . As I never saw the likes of Matthews , Puskas , Finney , Di Stefano or Edwards play , I can't pass comment on these .

I'll go for Maradonna, then Best, then Pele..in that order. I wonder whether Rooney may ever get there. He's certainly coming on...

Didn't see Pele or Best in their prime. Maradona, Van Basten, Cruyff and Platini have been the best during my lifetime, with Maradonna edging out the rest.

    Oh, and Shuker, obviously.

I lived through all of them, and Maradonna was head and shoulders above them. No one has mentioned Puskas...

Dad rates Puskas as the best he's ever seen. Way before my time.

    WHHHOOOOAAAAAAA

I mean, like, who was the best player in the World at one particular period in time...

I reckon Pele was (but not Jairzinho cos he was in the same team)

I reckon Best was. Nobody in the World was better than him in 1968 and 1969.

SO THERE IS A LOT OF THEM, LIKE....

could Ronaldo be one of them...

    I mentioned him

The reason I don't rate Maradona has highly as my other three is because he was one footed . Pele , Cruyff and Best were all better on their weaker foot than the majority were on their favoured one !

    wasn't Di Stefano around....

when Puskas was doing his stuff.

(Puskas went to live in Melbourne. They only earned a few quid then and later he was just Joe Blow in Melbourne)

For players I've seen (well on telly) Johann Cryuff

Never did it on the international stage

Not saying he wasn't fantastic [he was], but in order to state 'no argument' he would have had to play in the world cups. Not his fault, and I'm pretty sure he would have been supreme [looked good in the european cup], but he never got the chance, so there will always be some argument.

My old man reckoned Puskas was the best ever n'all.
In terms of modern day I suppose Zidane is the nearest to an all time great.
He's won everything there is to win. At his best he can run a game from midfield.
Foletti could be a contender, you never know.

    Best player, not shagger.

Everyone says either Pele or Maradona.
    I think it's Zidane.
Mi Fatha says it's Dennis Law.

Many Ladies who spent time in the Travelodge reckon it's Ashley Ward.

    Maradona

    Pele was a great player, so was Besty but there's only one player ever to win the World Cup "on his own". Argentina were an average side in 86 and would definitely not have done it without him. I watched all the Argentina games live (on tele) and have never seen such brilliance before or since. Brazil in 1970 were one of the greatest teams ever and would have won it without Pele. So for me;
    1. Maradona
    2. Pele
    3. Best
    P.S. He's still a cheating *******

Maradoona went down hill after like a virgin, plus according to the sun he has fell of his horse today. I never knew he was married to Guy Ritchie though.
