The bitterness of some of the people on here who preach..

tolerance and democracy on here is bizarre. The democratic decision has been made. We live with it and make it work. The usual suspects are still resorting to insults, stating their predictions...that is all they are.... as facts.

 

You're starting an awful lot of topics for someone who said they wouldn't gloat...

 

How do we make it work? Other than walking around with painted on fake smiles what can we actually DO? I keep asking you this but you haven't yet given me an answer.

^^^ this ^^^ Our very first mortage endowment, taken out in 1991, is due to mature next month. It was never going to pay off the mortgage anyway, with interest rates being so low for so long, but **** knows what we'll get back now. Daren't even look at the other savings.

 

Exactly the same position for me too. Was meant to be buying a new build house later this year. Doubt I'm going to be able to afford it any longer, but as long as it helps other I'm sure this is for the best. (Can't see it like)

Believe it or not Tekky, people are not going to be too over the moon with someone voting a country they don't even live in to leave the EU and posting multiple threads helpfully telling everyone who does live here to 'make it work' and talking about the 'sacrifices' they are undertaking for our benefit, all whilst living in a country that IS still in the EU.

 

None of them are gloating. In fact I am trying hard to get people to stop badmouthing each other and accept the democratic decision whether we agree with it or not. We wont know for some time whether or not it was right or wrong.

 

We do what we always do. For a start we stop talking Britain down. negativity will drag the country down. Stop trying to score points off each other and holding post mortems and 'blaming' one another. Look to the future and don't dwell on the result. Was it Roosevelt who said "The only thing to fear is fear itself. We are a trading nation. Has everyone forgotten that?

 

My savings have taken a massive hit. FX rate is down so our monthly income is reduced since all our costs are euros and income is sterling. so you are not alone.

 

So will people who move abroad and draw their state pension, thereby taking money out of the British economy.

 

As I said... your monthly income has not just taken a hit relative to your monthly outgoings like ours. My savings have just plummeted so you don't know. So we HAVE made sacrifices for what we believe in so please dont lecture me. I still have ties to UK just because I live outside the physical boundaries.

 

Negated by all the people who e.g. Americans etc who came to the UK and bring their pensions into the UK.

Funny how you all want free movement but when a Brit does it its wrong!!

 

For once I completely agree. Like others this has massively impacted my savings and I am much poorer as a result and being self employed I'm particularly vulnerable but it's the decision of the majority so should be respected. If it creates the demise of the tory party then it might be ok in the end.

 

Thanks for the support. Coming from you it means a lot as I know we have our differences. What riles me is that the very people who want freedom of movement in Europe are demonising me for having done that. I have NEVER wanted to stop people with the means to do so moving around Europe or Europe absorbing legitimate refugees. I have, as posted, already taken a big hit as our monthly income sterling is worth much less in Euros which is how we pay our bills. My rainy day shares from my income have also lost 20% of their value and as a pensioner I have no way of recouping those losses.

 

honestly not trying to score points etc. but given your statement above, what exactly do you think you (or the country) have gained from this result. If you're okay with freedom of movement, what were your concerns?

 

Sorry to hear that, Marc. Forgive my ignorance, but can I ask why your savings have gone down in value by 30-40%?

 

The stock market and the pound will inevitably bounce back, is the Swiss Franc a weak currency?
