Reading some posts on here today I wondered what the reaction would be if we supported the other teams in trouble. Bristol City, crowds averaging around 14/15k.40million in debt, employed a well respected manager with experience, spent more money on players than we could ever afford.Verdict gone down with a whimper. Wolves.crowds averaging 22/24k received parachute money 60m? got 15m from sale of players, employed a manager with a modest cv to say the least, crowds in uproar at the owner for not reinvesting.I think some of our fans would go into meltdown with the goings on at Wolves. Peterboro, crowds averaging around 6/7k,got an owner who bought the club as a "hobby" spent more money on 3 players than we've spent in the last five years continue to be yearly relegation candidates (like us) they play in a antiquated ground and in fairness without there Irish sugar daddy could be in a lot of long term trouble. Barnsley, crowds of around 9/10k ,no debt with money in the bank to keep us afloat if need be.Had a terrible run up to and around Christmas sacked our manager, some say too late (hindsight is a wonderful thing). We then employ a rookie who most people didn't want due to his alliance with Mr Hill and who has turned into a cracking manager who has the team playing with a passion and pride not seen for many a year.We may stay up we may go down but I know that my club as a lot more going for it than the above mentioned teams. Keep the faith hold on to yer hats and enjoy the roller coaster.
Peterborough spent more than we have in the last five years? We spent £1.2m on a player less than five years ago.
I like your optimism. But we'll lose over £4m if we go down. Could be £6m, depends which Don statement you believe. We aren't making enough money - without selling players, and signing gambles - to exist at this level. Be worse further down if fans continue to turn their backs, and this board/owner/regime remains. I'm not saying things are awful, or any worse/better than other clubs, but forgive me and others for worrying should we get relegated.
It's my understanding that we are in debt, Mr Cryne guaranteeing a £2mill overdraft, although I stand correcting on that. Know what you're saying but I'm only bothered about us, and want us to keep looking and aspiring upwards. Doesn't mean being unrealistic.
Agree with plenty of that I personally think we should we wait until the fat lady sings before we start playing the blame. However, keith, hindsight... Give over... he should never have been given another season. The man was devisive, drove fans away in their droves and showed his true colours in the second half of last season, when he didn't have a clue how to get a point, let alone turn things around. He was the antithesis of everything flitcroft has proven to be and how he managed to retain the job as long as he did, I'll never know.
I have to agree with what BMW says, yes going down would be a disatser but if it did come to it I'd feel more comfortable and equipped of coming back up than any of the other 3 teams he mentioned. Some on here have said tonight that they are fed up of the tow season in season out, a tell you what though I'd rather watch us tow in this league rather than be pissing about in league 1.
All these loans by the owners of clubs, are only put down as loans, in case they sell the club, so if it is sold they only have to pay tax on the amount they get over any money owed to them by the club. the fact is wile ever the club is in the hands of the debter he'll not take the money back unless there is a massive turn around in the club income i'e promotion to the premiership. that's the way one of the owners of Palace explained it on talksport a few week ago anyway. he said down the years people have pumped £ after £ into football clubs, then when its sold had to pay tax, now the way they do it is to loan there own business money so they get the maximum back after any sale.
Sort it out on the field and they will come. Too many people been fed up with the club because of what they have been paying to watch. Stay up this season and we finish on a high, build on that and let flicker add to the squad to challenge for top 6. Not a million miles away tbh!... If we manage to stay up! Everything crossed.
I think the loans have been written off and we are truly debt free. Also I believe Mr Cryne guarantee's the overdraft facility but I don't think we are using it currently. (Could be wrong)
At the meeting with Don, not the last one but the one before, when there was supposedly a lot of interest from different parties hoping to buy the club, Don said that Patrick Cryne was looking for a £1 million sale plus £6 million should the club be promoted to the premier League. The £6 million being the money Patrcik Cryne has loaned to the club.
Even in the third division they'll come if we're winning on a regular basis and challenging at the top - it's successful team people want to see not also-rans. Ohh and get rid of the stupid membership ****** - £20 on the gate to see a team storming the league and we'll have bigger crowds than this season for sure.
