when we scored. It was really loud on the radio. Were they aggrieved at a decision by the referee or were they booing their own team? I'm sure this season has been disappointing for Swindon supporters after the play-off campaign last season. It's actually been very similar to ours. They started the season inconsistently, winning some, drawing some, losing some, they then went on a shocking run losing 10 of 12 and drawing the other 2, then, like us, they've picked up recently and had won 7 of the previous 11 games before the match yesterday. If we concede a last minute goal against against Bury next Sunday which all but ensures a victory, I can't imagine there'll be much booing. There'll be plenty of shouts of exasperation, a fair few expletives and a number of people will get up and go home, but there won't be booing ringing around the stands. We're no strangers to last minute goals denying us the points, it happens a lot, and I think we handle it better than the Swindon fans did yesterday. You don't tend to get much booing at Oakwell even in the worst of times, like we had to endure earlier this season, so I can't see it happening when the great run we've had comes to an end, which it will do sooner or later. Chances are, even if we've played crap, the players will be applauded off because of the way they've fought for the cause in previous weeks. Our home support may not be the noisiest set of fans around but we seem to be a lot more pragmatic than most and can cope with set backs without getting munk on. Or, at least, understand the players probably feel as bad as we do and we don't want to kick 'em in the teeth when they're down. I think that's a little summat we can all be proud of. Maybe we're not that bad after all.
Actually, mate, I've noticed it quite a few times with their fans on the Channel 5 programme on a Saturday night, when opponents score at the County Ground. Their recent home win over Crewe was a classic example of this.
Not surprised they were booing Marley and winnall ran all the way down side of their stand taking piss haha And I loved it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He did but that's what it's all about Again supporters like to give it out but can't take it He got abused majority of the game and got his own back in the best possible way Nathan Blake used to get some abuse from us then score against us. Resulting in celebrating in front of our fans I think it's part of the game . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
As I said last night though, at least Sam and Marley were sprinting down the touch line celebrating the goal. The favourite thing that opposition teams do when they score at the Ponty End is to gather by the corner flag congratulating each other for a minute or two before walking at a snail's pace back to half way. The Swindon fans will have been furious yesterday because they are used to beating us at their ground.
If my team lost at home in the last minute to crappy northern monkies like barnsley, I'd be booing n'all.
Having watched the highlights, Winnall seems to foul their right winger when the throw in his taken. None of the Swindon players seem to protest, play continues and about 15 seconds later, we score. I don't think that's why they were booing, but I thought we'd got a little lucky with this. Sent from my I-Toaster using the internets
It's been done to us often enough! We tend to put ourselves down maybe unfairly sometimes at Barnsley. When we are on form and our collective mojo has reappeared we can be awesome. Feeling some rite good rememberable days are just round that corner, I have
The general negative atmosphere of booing at Swindon was picked up on by a couple of fans on their forum - interesting posts. "A better comparison would be if 6,000 tax payers stood around watching a junior civil servant doing their job and booed, heckled and told them they're ***** everytime they made a mistake. Can see it helping anyone except making the moaners feeling a little better" AND.... "I went to a couple of games in Germany back in September and I have to say, they seem to have the right idea over there and we've got it completely wrong. The second game in particular stands out - it was between Greuther Fürth and Bochum in the Bundesliga 2. It was a smallish stadium (crowd was maybe 12,000ish) but behind one goal you had the 'Ultras' or whatever the German equivalent is. There were flags and banners and flairs and everyone jumping up and down in unison and several drummers (they were actual proper drummers mind you who could play a proper rythm and it actually added to the atmosphere). The point of this is that on the field, Greuther Furth were getting well and truly, soundly hammered. They conceded in the first minute and the last and it didn't get any better in between. They ended up losing 0-5 and I was thinking that if it was at Swindon (or any ground in England to be fair) there would be booing and pissing and moaning and all sorts for the duration of the game. Having said that, there was some moaning going on around us (understandably) but it was just amongst the fans. It wasn't aimed at the players directly and it didn't need to be. It was obvious that the home team were having a 'mare and they knew it and that the fans weren't happy. The players knew the fans weren't happy and the fans knew that the players knew etc etc but during the 90 minutes they got behind the team. I am quite sure that in the bars of Furth after the game and on their forums they tore their team apart but it didn't happen during the game. I've said before, I'm not completely averse to the fans booing/having a go at the team if they have been particularly bad at the end of 45 or 90 minutes but only then and never individual players. Yes, fans have a right to display a bit of frustration or disappointment at times. However, I think it's got to ridiculous levels these days and some/a lot of fans have such short fuses they are just waiting to jump on the players backs the second anything goes wrong. That is not supporting the team by any stretch of the imagination."
I was at Swindon but couldn't hear any booing, all I could hear was wild cheering and shouting after the goal
Different stadiums have different acoustics. Plenty of times we'll go away somewhere, I'll think we made plenty of noise, and then it's hardly audible on the highlights, or a mate who supports the other team will say that we sounded pretty quiet from the home end. Saltergate was ridiculous for that - all the noise just seemed to escape.
They may have been booing but when you're stood in the middle of 500 Barnsley fans going mental you couldn't hear it.
