Do we all think that we are taking this all too seriously? I have changed my mind too many times in the last 24 hours. The only thing that seems that he is going to Utd for me is that both Simon Davey and Kevin Blackwell didnt want to answer the questions put to them yesterday. On the Sheff Utd forums they are all believing that there is a done deal. But for me a few things just dont add up. Why was he there yesterday cheering us on if he's signed for Utd? Blackwell will not speculate on things because he doesnt have to. Now my thinking is that Brian Howard has put a transfer request in and thats why he was left out of the team but yet still turned up yesterday. Lets put it this way. If i was Brian Howard and i had a done deal with Sheff Utd then i wouldnt have been at Oakwell yesterday. I for one hope he stays but only for the right reasons. If he wants to go then yes he should be dropped. Are we reading too much into this?
probably was at oakwell coz.. he'd arranged a night out with Ant Kay and probably will not sign until Monday anyway. As you say though, we coud all be reading too much into this. (dunno)
If Sheff U were not signing Brian Howard tomorrow, Kevin Blackwell would have denied the story as rubbish on P & G. The only reason for a 'no comment' is if it is actually happening.
Brian is still a Barnsley player. While he is still under contract, he may be obliged, unless given permission, to attend all the games. Coulson was there, along with the other members of the first team. My take is that if he is going, good luck to him (except when they play us), and thanks for the good times. Why do we insist on booing and slagging off a player because he wants to leave? There maybe many things that have affected his decision, and we probably don't know half of them. Remember last season against Sheff Utd? Morgan got some stick, but he had the CLASS to applaud all sides of the ground at the end. Why can't we, as supporters, show the same class when a player returns?
The ones who don't tend to get a good reception are those who make a sideways move for more money. No-one would begrudge him or anyone else going to realise their dream of playing in the Premier.
Agreed. A good signing is one where the player is good for the club and the club is good for the player and both progress. By this measure alone, Howard has been an excellent signing and, if time has come for him to move on, good luck to the lad. Just think, he could have signed for Bournemouth - and look where he would be now. He must think that the Barnsley move, although not featured in Country Life Magazine, has been good both for him and for the club. Both can take credit from his time here.
All this flowery fluffy talk, its crap................a few things here Firstly, if the situation was managed right, or should I say if Howard was managed right we wouldn't be giving him away for £600k. At just £600k I would keep him at the club until the end of the season and tell him after that he can go where he wants. Why ? because Howard could easily be the reason that Barnsley stays in this division. He's currently the only player that looks like scoring and we are second from the bottom of this league at the moment. If we go down its going to cost the club much much more than £600k. Secondly, the poster adverts of the club especially throughout the south and east of the borough have now been a total waste of time. We are trying to win the hearts and minds of people living in the district to come and watch Barnsley FC. We cannot do this when the same football supporters that we are hoping to attract to the WELL can see that our most priced possession is being off loaded at a cut price rate to a club a few minutes drive further down the road. Why watch Barnsley when they can watch Sheffield United with Barnsleys best player in it (dunno) If Barnsley do off load Howard then there MUST be other players brought in this week. There must be !!! But...........if things were managed right then we would keep Howard and bring other players in that could also actually score goals, the two players that PC knows we need but we still haven't got.
I got it right then? yey... dont beleive everything in the statement though. Let the bidding war commence. now the club will hold out for the biggest bid.
in my eyes Brian has said he feels let down they didnt offer him a new contract so he wants to go and Davey, been the person he is, has ostrecised him just as he did Johnson, Christenson etc.. and made examples of them. Davey rules with fear.
