Ive seen alot saying we need a massive clear out im.not so sure. The gap is massive between the two leagues. Callum elder one of the worst players I saw the season before has just won the league with Wigan. Stefan payne scored 12 goals and last season jason McCarthy got player of the year for Walsall. Get a decent manager in let him assess the situation see which players he wants out. Hopefully keep Bradshaw and moore upfront and make a few decent additions and we will be okay
Really difficult to assess, absolute sh*te season, but rarely turned over, hence a goal difference massively superior to anyone else down at the bottom - we just couldn't put the chances away. That being said, if we get a new manager in and he doesn't make wholesale changes then I'm guessing it's because he's been told that he needs to work with what he's got, rather than actually being content with the squad.
I question the motivation of players with relegation clauses that will cut their wage for next season. Unless significant investment is made, I suspect a season of feeling sorry for ourselves and then a decent tilt in 19-20. I’m not looking forward to next season one bit.
We’ve a good squad for league one imo one or two needs to go and a few additions to help the younger players is all we need not a massive shake up as some are saying .
That been said someone who isnt a good player in the championship doesn't mean he is poor in league one. Tom Lawrence scored against us today 11million pounds worth of talent big difference to what you will come up against next season.
This team is used to losing though, don't underestimate that mindset, it's hard to shift. We honestly need a total and thorough clearout, these players on paper might well be League One standard but in reality I wouldn't trust a single one of them to do a job in League Two. Take out all the out of contract players and the loan player and we literally have nothing.
Complete lack of pace throughout the squad, mental and physical, no leaders at all and no-one of our own anywhere near good enough in central midfield.
Not saying they would struggle in League One just that we don't seem to have a settled team; to be honest I can't even think off the top of my head who are loan players or out of contract, probably be a very different line-up next season even if we signed no-one.
Totally disagree, it's all down to the spreadsheet/recruitment. How can the fact that we have so little pace and leadership through the squad be down to the way a manager sets up a team?!?! I'd say pace is something you're born with - Brad Potts is never going to be physically or mentally quick even if he was in a team that Pep Guardiola had set up!
this squad would struggle in L1 next term... a handful of players is all we have, but we have a raft of crap ones. We need rid of a good deal of them.
We do but I wouldn't say a complete new squad that could be the worst thing we could do. Both hecky and jose didn't know their best 11 or formation. Well hecky stuck with the 451 even when it clearly wasn't working, he did give 532 a go for 45 mins at villa a top 4 side then changed it at half time. Need a proper manager for me in early who knows the leagues big Mick would be great would lift the whole club not sure he would fancy league one though.
Well that's a bit of an exaggaration. Only Yiadom, Hammill and surprisingly young Jack Walton are out of contract. The loan players are Gardner (I'd like to keep him) McBurnie (no chance). Mahoney (again no chance) Matt Mills and Joe Williams. Kieffer Moore is not a Championship player but proved his worth at Rotherham in League One. Potts, Moncur, Mallan, are good enough to develop further and bring back McGeehan and give him another go. Lindsay, Pinnock, Jackson and McCarthy are good enough for League One. Cavare. Pinnilos and Fryers are good enough at the back. Townend will leave and Davies might. I would let Hammill go - he is past his sell by date and there can be no room for sentiment. I would let Thiam go and take a hard look at Bradshaw.... we need a couple more strikers, but young Adeboyejo deserves a chance. Which leaves Knassmuller and Isgrove. The first one is a mystery but I think Isgrove could do okay in League One.
Our team is full of losers with a heart of a pea and today showed it once more. I'm sure some of the current squad would be OK in the garbage league we have to hack next season. But when we come back up we'd still have to get shut of them as we know they aren't championship quality and never will be. Best to give new blood a chance to get us up.
In the first instance, a decent bloke in charge that can organise the team would make a huge difference. Any two from Lidsey/Pinock/Armstrong will make a decent centre half pairing in League One(again with organisation), and Jason McCarthey was great last time he was at this level. Then there's Isgrove on one of the wings(we know how good he was last time), Moore(looked almost prolific for Rotherham) and Bradshaw(was always towards the top of the scoring charts). So if we can get the recruitment as right as we did last time(at this level) we may be ok. At the end of the day, look at some of the teams that have gone down in the last few seasons. Bolton fans thought they were fooked, but came back up. Wigan fans thought they were going to tumble through the leagues, and have gone back up. And I'm fairly sure Blackburn fans thought the same...
Hearts of a pea look at the team Wilson and flicker took down that was a heart of a pea team. These young lads tried they just weren't able to jump up from league 2 and confrance and compete against players like vydra tom Lawrence and Cameron Jerome.
