I was curious how the same owners reacted to letting Morais go, posed more questions to me than answers: Barnsley Football Club would like to place on record their thanks to José, Dimas and Joao for their efforts whilst in charge of the first team. https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2018/may/statement/
Thanked a man who managed to alienate the fanbase and fell out with a club legend. Oh and he got us relegated. Didn’t thank a man who got the fanbase back in touch with the club, did numerous charitable gigs, knocked about the local community AND got us promoted at the first attempt with record points. Weird indeed.
Yep. Was curious if they didn’t say something nice out of policy but clearly not. They seriously need to release a proper statement explaining this and their best transfer window in our history comments.
Is it possible because of the short curt statement that something quite serious as gone off behind the scenes.
I know the board are getting hung drawn and quartered at the moment for obvious reasons but could DS have said something or done something unspeakable to really upset the owners to receive such an unbelievable statement. Not defending our owners but there are two sides to every story - just a thought.
Absolutely agreed. Just trying to piece it together really. Not sure we will ever know the full story but a well run club wouldn’t be letting everyone point the finger straight at them and all tangible evidence ie the recruitment and lack of investment suggests they are in the wrong. I don’t believe they’ve done enough positive to be given the benefit of the doubt. I await more coming out.
Nah. If Stendel had done something bad he would have been suspended by the club pending investigation and then sacked.
Might be waiting for Stendels next move , if he walks straight into another job over next few days they might have a bit more to say or he was about to accept the contract they offered and they had second thoughts due to results and criticism of recruitment
World of difference though as it was readily known he was being sacked if we went down and probably if we stayed up, so they had plenty of time to prepare a statement and probably had already agreed it in advance of the game.
https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2018/february/club-statement-heckingbottom/ The statement after Heckingbottom went to Leeds not long after signing a new contract. They even had room to say thank you for his efforts and successes, despite him leaving for a hated rival club.
Darren Barnard (@dazzibarnard) Tweeted: Would of expected a better statement highlighting the achievements of the manager in the last 18 months and thanking him for his efforts regardless of how it ended. Stay professional. Poor from you @barnsleyfc Sums it up perfectly!
Just searched the statements for the sacking of DW and when Little Lee asked for permission to speak with Bristol City. Obviously pre this current set of owners, but both statements, in very differing circumstances were professional and courteous and wished both people well. I find it staggering that however many hours since the statement was posted there has been no addition of a thank you for the season that brought our highest ever points total, an attacking aggressive high tempo style of play and good will that was shared in many quarters.
