I think he has been excellent for the club and deserves to move on to big wages at Sunderland or wherever.

If Barnsley can get £5M + for him that's great.

Alternatively if he stays that also would be great - but selling players at the right time for the right price is what it's all about.

Why would you encourage your best players to move away?

    Why - explain?
    I think he's done brilliantly.
And the close season would be the right time to cash in and bring other young hungry players in.

Unfortunately I have to say I doubt he'll be wearing a Barnsley shirt next season, good luck to the lad, deserves his chance.

Course he does, same as they all do if they're good enough. Doesn't mean you have to shove them out of the door though.

Were you not criticising of previous sales. And you've continually challenged the strategy

Certainly wouldn't do that, we've had 14 clean sheets this season and he's a big reason for that, not to mention chipping in with the odd goal, I'm just being realistic. There isn't any appetite from the club to change the policy in terms of wages or recruitment strategy so I think he'll leave.

Not saying I agree with that though - to me if you rake in £20m in transfer fees in a season you use that to move on a level, but that doesn't seem like happening, obviously there are also circumstances of much higher importance than a silly sport involved as well. The club itself doesn't have a divine right to that money, it's that of the Cryne family.

I think we'll get a real chunk for Roberts. Did ok from mawson, but I think Roberts will go for even more. He's an absolute monster, quick and a better ball player than when he came.

All about maximising profits we got robo on a free from Halifax a 5 million profit is ģood for a player who has served us well. We can probley demand more with 12months left on his deal if we let him get to january though we will get less than 5 million. Will be hard to replace there's only one marc roberts, get thi sen down oakwell and watch him while he is still here because I think he will be gone in the summer buy it will have been a pleasure.

Once more Nudge diverts his attention from whatever he fills his days with for just long enough to share his wit & wisdom with us on the BBS. Utter *****, as always, but he's had a bite or two, which is clearly what gets him off.

This summer he will have a year left on his contract and let's be right he won't be signing up for longer when bigger clubs will be offering his talents a massive wage increase. Our hand will be forced to sell and I'd be shocked if he starts next season with us.

Yes, but what's that got to do with "encouraging him to leave"?

Completely wrong. We should be encouraging our best players to stay with us. When it becomes clear that they won't be staying, when their intentions are known, then we seek to get the best price for them.

Because the less of his final 12 months there is, the less chance we have of getting good money for him. To avoid another January like the last one we need a sign or be sold mentality for those with one season left.

I get all that, but still isn't the point.

The original posts suggests intentionally weakening your team by telling your best players "you'd be better off somewhere else"

That's just wrong, especially bearing in mind the furore of the January sales, when the players left against all our will.

Our lot are constantly on the boards back as it is. I'd hate to think what would happen if the club actually egged players on to leave.
