My dad's foster-daughter has started coming to games with us.

Her first-ever football match was Oxford at Wembley. I was round at my dad's after we beat Fleetwood, got chatting to her, asked her if she wanted to go, and now we have a very excited fan who refers to Barnsley as 'we' and 'us.'

She came to the Rotherham match, and in an entertaining but goalless first half, she looked at me and said: God, it's quiet. And she was right.

Now, the Cryne flag is a brilliant idea. The idea of a 9x6m 'One man made us, one man saved us' flag with the shadow-pictures of Preedy and PC is amazing. It shows that as a fanbase we have the spirit, creativity, determination and funds to make something meaningful and lasting with only two days' notice.

Do we have to stop there, though? Can we use the making of the flag to give us a better atmosphere in the long-term? Why can't the Ponty be full of flags? We have so much which is flag-worthy and song-worthy both in our past and in our present. We are owned by a fan, managed by a fan, the most expensive English defender ever started with us, we won twice at Wembley in the space of a couple of months - and this is only recent history!

My question is how do we tap into it if the will to do so is there? Could we turn part of Oakwell into something like Selhurst Park or Anfield? How do we know if people even want to do it?

I genuinely don't think Crystal Palace fans are any different to us. They just got themselves mobilised. Is it worth me getting in touch with whatever fan organisations they have, asking the questions, and coming back with the answers?

I genuinely don't know what fans would like. I know what I'd like, but I can only speak for me. The idea has been in my head since yesterday. What to do?

    Yes. Yes. Yes Baka!

I posted something similar earlier this week on another thread. Newcastle have done something similar this season - see: http://www.true-faith.co.uk/gallowgate-flags-all-systems-go/ and also see their twitter account for photos.

It's miles better this season than for some time but it's the right time to do even more.

its quiet because the east stand is full of old men, who wont sing, that's not derogatory ,just a fact, if we get riled by refs we can do a good bit of booing and hissing ,the lads who do singing, appear to also cause bother and smash stuff up,so a lot of them have been given the boot, we need a singing section imho, so every one in that section wants to sing, many a time if you start shouting and singing in certain sections, your not appreciated screaming in folks lugholes

The atmosphere has been brilliant since this amazing run started. Let's not turn the Ponty into a cringey Ultra wannabe stand, a craze that's sweeping the UK thanks to Palace. Lets stick to proper fans singing proper songs and not being told when to wave flags or stand with their backs to the pitch and bounce about.

I'd love to see some flags in the Ponty.

When Liverpool came close to the title the other year it looked & sounded incredible with you'll never walk alone blasting out & all the flags on the kop. Hard to replicate something like that

I'll suggest it again. Massive Kes flag right across the Ponty - Dai Bradley flicking the V's. One town, one team, now **** off.

You're wrong there. Do you know what, on days when folks have said the Ponty was in full voice, The East Stand at the Family end cannot hear any noise. I'm not suggesting the Ponty isn't singing, it's just that the acoustics are terrible. This season, songs have been started in the East Stand, and have been pretty loud. I'm guessing the Ponty end didn't hear. Yet even when 30 fans start singing in the North Stand, you can hear them clearly. There's definitely plenty of noise from fans near us.

Our ground is terrible acoustically, it always will be while ever the West Stand is there, the noise is lost over the top of it and the open corners. If the West is ever built to mirror the East the atmosphere will improve ten fold.
