Firstly let me just point this out - I have been saying for the last few seasons on this message board that Patrick Cryne has yet to build anything on or off the field while he has been in charge at Barnsley Football Club.
And the vast majority of people on this message board have relentlessly slated me for saying this.

I have also said that if anyone should have a statue built out side of the ground then that statue should be of Patrick Cryne - because without Patrick Cryne we would simply not have a club.

The only problem with Patrick Cryne in my view is that, on previous evidence, he doesn't seem to have enough funds available to 'prime the pump' and in doing so make Barnsley Football Club a viable Championship club.
So my fear is that even if we got promoted to the Championship we would have season after season rooted to the foot of that division - consequently losing even more supporters than we already have.

Patrick Cryne, in his own words, came into the club to save it before selling it on. He still hasn't done that after all these years.

However, leaving the lack of funding issue to one side, I still think we have a fantastic board of Directors.
Patrick Cryne is a proper, heart on his sleeve, fan of Barnsley Football Club.
Maurice Watkins has important contacts within sport and beyond sporting circles.
Barry Taylor has important contacts within football.

Now looking at the more recent problems.
In my opinion what we are seeing at the moment is this - it seems that a decision was made in the close season to build a YOUNG squad.
The players that have been brought in are a very talented bunch of players - but it has to be said that confidence is often very fickle amongst young players.
The experiment of bringing a bunch of young players together could have worked - but at the moment it doesn't seem to have done.

Consequently the decision to bring in only young players needs to be changed.
But the question is this - has Patrick Cryne got sufficient funds available to bring in a couple of older more experienced players that are likely to want much bigger wages?

I think that would solve the immediate problem - but in the longer term there needs to be another owner - or better still a way of increasing investment into the club while retaining the present members of the board of directors

Id say the decision to build a squad of saleable assets... first came to light when Mark Robins left.

Agree - which underlines the point I'm trying to make about 'lack of funds' to build a proper team.

Remember, previous to the 'young squad' experiment we have had the experiment of bringing lower league players to the club and trying to develop them and then sell them on.
That didn't work either - because these lower league players were on short term contracts and were sold for comparative peanuts - Vaz Te, Shackle and Craig Davis spring to mind.
And that particular policy wrecked the chances of a string of good managers that have been at the club including Robins, Flicker and Mellon.
