I still remember the first time I saw it in 1980s,it was unusual in that it portrayed americans negatively. There then followed a few Vietnam War movies, which were also negative in their narrative.
My view exactly. Watched it out on the big screen at a film club very early 80’s. Great film great soundtrack. The Russian Roulette scene is iconic. But I don’t think I will ever watch it again.
Me too. Haven't seen it for maybe 20 years now, when I made that decision. Add to that list Taxi Driver, which is an even better film that I won't watch again.
There are some films you can watch over and over like the original Star Wars trilogy and Indianna Jones. Disney cartoon Robin Hood, Bedknobs n' Broomsticks, Sword in the Stone and Jungle book. Then there's vietnam films. I think they fall down because they make out that horrors were only felt and inflicted in that conflict. I don't know if it's an American thing.
