Re Joe Le taxi. A few points:
    1. As a Barnsley fan I’m very worried that the alleged incident is going to scupper our hopes of staying up. Part of my point was - that from experience - certain Taxi Drivers can be antagonistic. It is feasible therefore that there is a lot more to this story than we know already. So lets support the lads until we know the full facts.
    2. Most people contributing to the thread yesterday were of the opinion I was racist. No doubt then if you are right I will be out tonight burning cross and hood making mischief? That seems to be the common interpretation stirred up by such a definition these days.
    3. There is an intelligent school of thought that actually feels the world may be a safer and a better place if we accepted our cultural differences but rather than than try and idealistically mix them together (oil and water?!) we keep them separate for the sake of peace and harmony.
    4. My taxi experiences are based in Leeds- always late at night. I have had a drink of course like most of us do although character wise I don’t really change however much I have had (still meek, mellow and mild I assure you). Perhaps it is possible that late night taxi drivers in Leeds are different to the ones throughout the day, different to teh Barnsley ones - or at least adopt a different persona.
    5. The term racist. I won't patronise anyone by giving the dictionary definition. However, what narks me is the way that it is used as a term on a par with child molester, murderer, pervert etc. That someone may feel threatened by another race and culture and want to preserve their own identity is human nature.
    6. If I was racist then of course I would be promoting an Enoch style repatriation programme. I will put this on record that I feel certain ethnics have added value to this county none more so that the West Indian culture both in terms of food, sport, medicine.......and many other walks of life.

    So let's get this right

You don't believe that people from different ethnic backgrounds should mix, you do believe that it is human nature to feel threatened by people from a different race, but you're not racist because you don't go around wearing a hood and burning a cross. You should have quit while you were behind sonny.

You're 100% not a racist, you just don't think that people of different races and skin colours should be together, thats all?

hey Disco. What I was saying is that your comments were racist. That doesn tmean I think you hate people of other races or would ever wish any harm on them. I also agree that the word 'racist' is now used to brand ppl and people react in a very over the top manner to it! The Jade Goody fiasco is a good example.

RE: what a load of crap that is

To say that people of different colours should not live together is not racist! It is a belief which could be honestly held. Howver I challenge anyone to show why this ascertion is true. I see no reson why different races cannot live together!

The question of religion howver is a different matter.

May I chip in on on this thread please.

About an hour and a half ago I was stood at the bar of a local hostilery when I met a friend who is an employee of Barnsley Football Club..

I asked him what was going off about the alleged racist incident involving 3 Barnsley players.

His reply was that the Club didn't know who the players were. He was rather surprised when I told him who the named players were.

He wasn't even aware that the Chronicles web site or the Star had named the players.

So can we please stop this witch hunt until the facts are known and the legal process takes its course.

    I agree

To be honest this thread wasn't directly related to the Barnsley case. This thread is in reference to an earler one by disco which related to asian/muslim taxi drivers inspired by the Barnsley story but not related.

I agree ppl making comments on the Barnsley story, when we no so little about it is utter nonsense!

    The word racist......

For what it's worth; it's quite easy to accuse/brandish a white person with racism (even if the so-called offence took place, and i'm speaking from having witneessed two incidents on seperate occasions in East Ham), whereas for some reason it's hardly acknowledged of the racism that black/asian people etc show towards whites. This is from my own personal experience. Aged 42. Got two Jamaican/West Indian/ half caste brothers blah blah blah, but that is the trutch, so there!! Ner!!

I can't say any more than it was an employee of BFC. A full time employee.

Iv'e got to admit I was surprised that I appeared to know more about it than he did.

Point 1: If the accusations turn out to be true (IF, and I say IF) our chances of staying up pale into insignificance - nowt else to be said.

Point 2: Answer the question in your previous thread where people provided reasonable evidence of you being racist (your reference to people of a "certain persuasion" gave the game away) - starting a new thread does not eradicate what you've said previously.

Point 3: Maybe, maybe not, different debate. You essentially tried to provide evidence of why it is acceptable to kick the **** out of an Asian taxi driver. Whatever our cultural differences - no justification.

Point 4: Taxi drivers provide a service we are all more than happy to use. You don't like them, walk home. Since when has ripping off people by charging daft prices become a trait of people of a "certain persuasion"? Like I said yesterday, if you don't like the free market - oppose it (or, alternatively, have the guts to admit you agree with the principle but, hypocritically, do not like the consequences - you challenged Asian taxi drivers to do the same).

Point 5: Their own identity? By that you mean justifying attacks (at least, hypothetical attacks) upon working class people by rich and privileged people while the idiot sycophants gibber about how right it is for a rich man to knock the ***** out of a poor man trying to earn his living? You are from Barnsley aren't you or have I walked into a private school discussion board?

Point 6: No, if you were a racist you'd be sanctimoniously telling people not to make judgements about anyone's guilt while at the same time extolling anyone's innocence by listing reasons why Asian taxi drivers deserve the **** kicked out of them. Oh, hang on a minute...

    Ketilbert quote:

'You essentially tried to provide evidence of why it is acceptable to kick the **** out of an Asian taxi driver.'

Classic!!! - If you care to read the threads again I have NEVER EVER justified this sort of behaviour. I have in fact stated that whatever the situation the BFC players were in -and ones I have been in for that matter - I for one would never resort to violence because it's not part of my make up - and even if it was I couldn't justify using it in these situations whatever the provocation. However, - and as I stressed originally, not everyone is so placid.

My overall point - and I will stress this again - is that I am positive that there will have been some provication for any alleged incident to take place. In other words this was not a random attack. I used some examples of what may have proved provocation based on my experiences of taxis in Leeds.

On final point. In an ideal world - or just one where democracy really did exist - there would be no need to try and put a point of view over whilst having to dress certain words up. However a few months back whilst first posting on this board I was warned by another contributor to be careful what I said or face being banned. Hence my mails are being 'careful with what I say'.

    Just one point.

That sounds very much like "the official story", and I'm not calling what you've said into question, but I find it hard to believe that the Football Club doesn't know when 3 of it's players are arrested!

A few months ago a lad was banned from this board for posting pictures of people going about their legitimate, daily business with a view to provoking a reaction. He was roundly condemned by most on here but a lot of those people, including myself, defended his right to post despite him clearly overstepping the lines of opinion and entering the realm of harassment. I don't know if you've noticed but all sorts of **** gets posted on here and very, very few people get banned. Gi'oer with the oppressed white man ****, it's getting a touch boring - you have the right to post, we have the right to respond - simple as. If you don't wish your opinions to be so vehemently challenged try basing them on something other than racial (not racist) stereotypes...

    I quote:

"My own experiences of using taxi's with drivers of a certain persuasion:

    1. They charge twice the going rate on the basis you are sozzled and won't know the difference.
    2. If you object - then more often than not they will come down to the proper price rather than lose the fare (highlighting they were cheating you in the first place)
    3. They lecture you on morals and encourage you to read their version of biblical events.
    4. Thye 'pretend' to befriend you and establish rapport by talking to you about going out drinking, clubbing etc when they haven't got the guts to say it's against their beliefs
    5. They then tell you what they would like to do - in some graphic detail - with the 'trash' scantily clad ladies who they see on the journey back to yourhome.

.....................I could go on............. but I will save my energy to get fully behind the lads unti and ifl the full facts are known and they are proven to be guilty."

So you're so keen to wait until the facts are proven that you're going to put forward a list of generalisations about Asian taxi drivers to justify (to defend or uphold as warranted or well-grounded, www.dictionary.com) why the alleged incident might have taken place.

I am keeping an open mind about the allegations and find it difficult to believe Barnsley Football Club would employ people capable of carrying out such acts as the alleged incident. You, however, seem to have made up your mind, which is my sole point...

You lose me when you say you are positive there will have been some provocation for what happened.

WHY and HOW can you be "positive"?

Do you really not believe that in this day and age there are arrogant, ignorant and downright yobbish young men who are only too happy to attack some poor innocent bugger without the slightest provocation?

You cannot possibly be "positive" that that's not exactly what happened here.

Follow your own advice - wait for the facts before you make sweeping statements like that.

    No way Jose!

Political correctness is part of the problem, not part of the solution imho.

We should all rub along together, respecting and tolerating each other's traditions and festivals.

    I agree.

I think it was Rosco who hit the nail on the head the other week regards some of the dodgy nicknames for Pete and Steve - these sort of discussions have nowt to do with political correctness, just correctness. It's all about respect at the end of the day...

Worryingly, I'm quoting Rosco as some sort of high-brow philosopher - I think I need to go and lie down...
