You speak to anyone involved in football & they'll tell you a big plus for a side is a settled defence & keeper. Almost every team that does well has this. Leicester & Watford are two fantastic examples this year. I think yesterday was the first time Leicester have changed the defence in the league & they had to because Morgan was suspended. Anyway the point is it should only really be changed if a players in very bad form or you have injuries & suspensions. What Johnson should have done is shown some faith in his players & stick with a back 4 / 5 for a period. Instead he liked Roberts so tried to squeeze him in, he played Nyatanga at left back, kept changing the centre backs, dropped Bree for a poorer performing Wabara & has since brought in Long & White & played them instead. And the only outcomes from chopping & changing the goalkeepers was an even more nervy defence & 2 goalies both losing confidence. I believe we've had no injuries to any of the defence or keeper apart from Wabara missing for about a fortnight so why on earth has Johnson been chopping & changing so much? Mawson & Roberts were a good partnership at the start of the season so he should've just stuck with that. All the changes have just ruined confidence & led to more mistakes. Issues like this & Johnson's game losing substitutions are why I believe he should've gone a month ago. It's incompetence as far as I'm concerned. It's just something you don't do unless you have to. He brought Long back in yesterday which I couldn't understand as it's clear Wigan are a team that play it on the deck. Long's better in the air & Mawson's a better footballer so why drop Mawson for yesterday's game? Long barely had a header to win because Wigan don't play that way. Anyway him & Nyatanga got in each other's way a few times & we had the comical 2nd goal so no doubt he'll make changes again & we'll see another back four for the Bury game. Sooner or later he needs to show some bravery & stick with a defence
Spot on with that exept the dropping Mawson think he was a liability at Colchester second half last week. But the chopping and changing defence and goal keeper has done us no favors and bree should be starting before wabara everytime for me
