*** Sheffield Wednesday ***

A town the size of rotherham should not be getting 4 or 5 thousand fans at home matches. The Wendy have bled Rotherham dry.

Sorry Nudger..

that's utter B*ll*cks.

Was it their fault or say Leeds' that we went into admin?

No, just like us it's the wrong combination of directors, players and managers coupled with ITV Digital, overpaid players and in their case especially a lack of support from the local population..regardless of Wednesday's success, they have always been bigger than Rotherham, andus for that matter

It was a combination of both
Plus
A chairman who didn't have enough funds at the time to see us back into the premeir league
I feel sorry for Rotherham - but in a business sense - its good for us

I think it's more down to those fans who clamoured to get rid of Ken Booth.

Satisfied now lads?

Total ********...

Fair enough...none of the old board had the personal funds to see the club back to teh Premier League, but if you are suggesting PC will bankroll a charge back then I fear you will be sorely dissapointed my friend....

But to BLAME Leeds and Wednesday...it's pushing it a bit...

Oh and...

in the short term it could be good for us...but seriously how many Millers would you expect to come and start watching us? Would you have gone to watch them if we had folded?

However, in teh long term a football club actully doing what others have threatened and going under can be in no-ones best interests....

The demise of Rotherham is basically down to one thing

The Rotherham football supporter has gone to Wendy in preference to going to watch Rotherham United
If most Rotherham people watched Rotherham United it would have put more money into the club which in turn would attract further investment from individuals with funds to invest. Simple as that.

Donny suffer from this
Chesterfield suffer from this
We suffer from this (although less than the above)

And if you don't beleive me - then talk to the football fans in Rotherham
Tonight on radio Sheffield a Rotherham fan said - if we close it will mean the Sheffield clubs will get a FEW more supporters. He didn't mention Barnsley or Donny did he. Although in saying that I think we would pick a load of Rotherham fans up if Rotherham United close. They hate the Sheffield clubs and I'm not surprised.

Answer me this Nudger

If Barnsley had gone out of business during the dark days of administration, would that mean you'd have gone to watch Wednesday? If Barnsley aren't doing too well, do you pop down to Bumhole lane to watch United?

No? Niether do I, nor do Rotherham fans.

Your model may work when it comes to Supermarkets taking business away from small shops, but football is completely different. Your team stays with you for life. It's true that if the form of a team dips many fans may stop going, but they're not all off down to their local rivals to get their football fix. They just do something completely different, like play golf or go shopping or do a bit of gardening. The missing Rotherham fans are not at Hillsborough, they just can't be arsed paying through the nose to watch crap football, but it's still their team and always will be.

I take your point.

But I have been known to go and watch Aber town.

And when my my dad lived in Rotherham, he sometimes watched the millers although his heart was always in the well. Can't imagine it myself like

You're not choosing Aber Town over Barnsley though are you

It's a case of location and you being unable to get to 'Well. That doesn't apply to Rotherham fans in relation to Wednesday.

I'd be very surprised if yer Dad went to watch Rotherham when Barnsley were at home. I sometimes go to watch Frickley, but never when Barnsley are at home.

RE: I take your point.

when i was a kid i had a uncle who lived near millmoor so when i went to visit i used to go watch the millers, as barnsley were usually home opposite weekends i went to barnsley 1 week millmoor the next and i suppose i supported both teams equally (bearing in mind at the time rotherham was in the old 2nd we were in the 4th divs). then we both ended up in the same division i couldnt carry on supporting the 2 teams, there was no contest really and since then the only time ive been to millmoor is to see barnsley play away.

Of course you wouldn't change the team...

...you supported if that was to happen, but it would effect the next generation of fans and so on would it not?

Jay........whats the difference between a football team and a super market ?

Answer in this case........Nowt !!!

Both are businesses. Both attract regular custom. Some of these customers will not shop anywhere else. But those businesses with special offers (regular premiership football or 9p for a tin of beans) usually get the most custom.
Those that get the most custom can then promote better offers to attract other custom.
And the daughter always shops at that shop
And the son always go's to that football ground

Went to a pub on Tuesday night

Its quite on a Tuesday
This pub is about 5 miles from the WELL as the crow flies
There was me and 2 other Barnsley fans sat at the bar talking
A meeting was taking place in the corner of the room
There were about 12 at this meeting
Four were wearing Wendy shirts
I spoke to a guy who came in later and sat at the bar.
I mentioned the Wendy fans to him.
Oh, he sez, I've been a Wednesday fan for 20 years.
This is 5 miles from the WELL !!!

Nudger, you really are obsessed.

You really ought to get a grip on reality.

Theres a few pig & white ***** fans in tarn but c'est la vie.

People dont switch clubs the do other things when their particular team is doing badly.

Good championship footy will see 12-15000 back at t'well irrespective of the success or not of our rivals.
