    The other day in a somewhat rambling post I mentioned that the editor of the Racing Post had written of his
    team, Crystal Palace, being beaten in the 1980s by the "the likes of Barnsley" and what dark days they were.

    Earlier on I had a reply to my email to him and here it is:

    "APOLOGIES AND CONGRATULATIONS

    Hi

    I am sorry you took that comment to be patronising. It wasn't meant like that and I shall try to avoid causing similar annoyance in future.

    I won't deny I am happier now than in the days when we used to lose Division Two fixtures to Barnsley but I am sure you will be beating us again within three seasons.

    I hope you enjoyed Wembley. I was delighted to see you beat Millwall. Well done.
