Reighty!- in pre season i came up with the idea of offering supporters the chance to get half priced season tickets if they sold 16K tickets! This works out on average at under 7 quid a match! Now we wouldnt get the same amount of pay on the day revenue but in other ways the scheme has the potential (i think) to create so many new marketing ideas and ways to generate revenue id like the club to have a proper look at it!

Ive knocked up a VERY basic spreadhseet that quickly summarises INCOME ONLY. It also doesnt take into account costs and how these would increase due to increased staffing and policing etc etc! I have also summarised per head average spending on things like club shop and food sales. Ive also stuck a percentage of people buying programs and put 2.50 as the cost (im not sure as i dont get them anymore) and also put 40% of attendance returning for cup games etc.

Ive also put the estimated away fans onto the 16000 attendance for extra revenue but have not included casual reds supporters onto the gate.

These are the things increased attendances will bring:

    1. Increased revenue form catering, club shop, programs, raffles and also the casual supporter. People want to come to a buzzing environment!
    2. Increased away fans - fans will come to a ground because of the size of the club and what it means. I think this will increase away support also.

Im pretty sure i have well underetimated what could be spent per head but i have no idea so have put it very low. I have also estimated the Donny and Blackpool games just for fun. I also dont know if 5500 is the number of season tickets we sold??

Here is a shot of the spreadhseet. What i want to know is what i could add to this, what is wrong with it (if there is owt), actual costs and figures i could include etc etc...

Please make this constructive and maybe the club will listen. How many more people would buy a ticket for half price! Would you?

Let me know anything you could add and i'll add it!

i actually make it that the club is much better off financially

Also think how much better the playes will respond and new players want to come to guaranteed attendances like these every week.

    advertising revenue would increase

more people would see them so the price to advertise at oakwell would increase meaning more income yet again

Very good idea, but it's a big risk so I cant see the club doing that...

it isnt a risk because people would agree to it before hand

kind of signing a cheque saying if the club sells 16,000 tickets then i will buy one guarenteed. if they dont then i wont.

    what is the risk?

The idea is supporters sign up and this system kicks in once 16,000 signup!

It would have to start ASAP in the season once the club knows what league they will be in or ASAP at the end of the season.

Media coverage from doing a scheme (increased advertising for free) - this would also lift the clubs profile and maybe otherclubs would follow suit. This could then lower prices for away tickets.

thats the battle - but 150 quid for the season is well good!

Sureley that should get more people to buy one.

Ive not messed with the model but im sure the figures could be tweaked more.

It will get a lot more people buying one but while the club remains in this division i can't see it happening.

Also im sure we'd attract the sky cameras more!

I'd like to think the club have thought of this or something similar, however....

You've obviously thought this out and put some work into it, maybe you should send it to GS, see what he thinks!

will do - will get any oversights ironed out first.

I suppose pay on the day prices may have to change but why should they! If everyones on a season ticket then it wont matter. Things wouldnt be any different for away fans.

Maybe we could have a trial run of it for a season. If everything goes well then it can continue, there is no harm in trying a new scheme to get people into Oakwell

    Mistake, i think

Good idea but i think theres a mistake with the Blackpool match re: attendance

Also the extra police, steward, first aid, other staff costs will take a huge slice of the extra but will be interesting if can get hold of realistic figures for that to see if its still viable.

Good work and very interesting all the same!

    i'll keep updating the spreadsheet.

If we do **** this season and were out of it by feb then expect attendances to drop massivley. A system like this would protect income too.

Also people that normally buy tickets will have some spare cash and might now buy a shirt or both home and away where as before they might have been too skint.

I think it's an extremely forward thinking idea

And it's something that I would sign up for. I also believe it would generate a huge amount of positive media coverage. But I reckon 16,000 is too high a figure to aim for. Maybe it would be worth aiming for something a bit more realistic like 12,000 and see how the figures balance then.

Maybe it's also worth speaking to an accountant, I'm sure some must post on here, and asking for help in setting out a financial forecast. I'm not being critical of you as I wouldn't have a clue how to do such a thing, but if you're going to pass this idea on to the club a degree of professionalism wouldn't hurt. And maybe they could confirm that such an idea would work. It certainly looks feasible to me, but I have absolutely no knowledge or experience in this matter.

    Another Idea that Hearts did

I think it was Hearts, it was free to get in to all pre-season friendlies and those who went got a voucher for something like 10-15% off the price of a season ticket. Not only was the ground full for friendlies (extra programme, refreshment sales etc) but they've virtually sold out their entire ground with season tickets. Something like that anyway.
