... a senior figure that SD could consult with. Similar to the role Keith Birkinshaw has at Watford with Ady Boothroyd. Not a hands on fella, but someone who's there for advice etc SD and his backroom staff are all pretty young and are obviously going to make mistakes as they learn.
Ressurect Old Big 'Ead The ghost of Cloughie would be a great appointment, he'd have sage advice for SD and on matchdays he could provide tactical support for the Stewards.
Disagree, I always think 'Directors of Football' or whatever cause more harm than good. No manager appreciates being told what they should be doing by someone else...if Davey felt that he needed experience behind the scenes he'd request it himself. He's made some mistakes this year but on the whole he's done a decent job...and now with some quality in the squad it's time for us to push on.
I didn't mean a "Director of Football" type... That why I said "not hands on" I meant someone who could be there for advice if needed etc, SD, for all his good work so far is still learning his trade in terms of football management.
Yeah, I know what you're saying but I don't see the value in appointing anyone. Clearly, Davey will be seeking advice from managers he played under etc...like most people would. To try to force the issue by appointing someone who Davey may or may not get on with would be counter productive and a waste of money. Managers like to work with people they know and trust. Davey has his staff and he seems content with that, to meddle would just cause confusion. I just don't see the benefit of a system like they are putting in at Newcastle with Executive Directors of football (or worrever), technical directors etc. Too many cooks and all that. Appoint your manager, back him 100% and let him get on with the job.
RE: I agree Now come on Jay, such a uni doesn't even exist.
Then again more believable than the 'university of my back garden' that my head of 6th form always used to go on about. Make of that what you will...

I reckon we need to bring in a new first team coach and leave devey to the negotiation side of managment
isn't it the way of the world? if you want to sound something out what do you do? he'll have a huge network of contacts, some who will be experienced managers - I would have thought he'll have someone he talks to on a regular basis,
Appointing people in such a role is almost admitting that you don't think the manager is up to the job, but the way they have backed him it's clear messrs Cryne and Shepherd are more than happy with the job Davey's doing. So long as he doesn't cripple any more goalkeepers or panic buys any more strikers, I have to say I agree with them.
RE: isn't it the way of the world? Who do think that might be ??? Some say he's quite friendly with Fergie and David Moyes... Could it be one of those two ??
no point.............. he can just get on the phone to Sir Alex (his reference for the job) when necessary
I think someone who's run a pub side on a Sunday would be a good foil for Davey. Coaching and that. Add a bit of class to proceedings.
He already has O'Hanlon.
Getting a senior figure in to do nothing useful would be a waste of money.
If a manager needs assistance to do his job eg Venables with Robson at Middlesbrough then he's not fit to a manager.
Davey is doing fine as things are.

Give up, that's outrageous, that would make him an unfit manager. Davey only needs Davey, and that FA coaching manual he's working through. Experience counts for nothing, it's qualifications you need.
