Never mind arranging task forces and so forth because one overpaid Premiership star makes a comment in an interview, they need to look at what they are allowing to carry on. We've discussed this one here before and we all seemed to agree that they shouldn't have let Portsmouth get away with what they did, but today Blackburn have announced losses of £36.5m for last season. Constantly paying managers off can't help, but when the finances in football are so unfairly distributed to make sure that relegated Premiership teams don't get themselves into financial disaster, they should do something to stop clubs from splashing the parachute payments out on yet more high earning players. Blackburn had a profit of a few million in their last Premiership season, but knew they would take a hit when they came down, yet they still splashed out £11.7m on players out of their parachute payment, players who will be adding significantly to their wage bill. If this carries on it is a matter of time before we are looking at another Portsmouth. The FA seems incapable of learning from their mistakes. And they wonder why they are having trouble attracting crowds back to the game, when we have to pay £25-50 for the privilege of helping these clubs pay their players' wages. If Blackburn hadn't bought Rhodes' goals last season they would have gone down.
Agree with this... but until the FA stops bowing down the PL this won't happen and Keith Hill made best comment regarding parachute payments as rewarding failure. If I had a company and it performed ***** I would go bankrupt not in football here you go £48m over 4 years. ****ers.
Well according to FFP, they'll only be allowed to post 8m losses at the end of season, with a max of 5m of that subsidised from owners/directors. We'll see how the Football League will react....Not holding my breath!
I think it is £60m over four years now. Football has been completely ruined by money and until the authorities grow a spine it will continue. I feel sorry for the genuine fans but I couldn't care less if clubs like Blackburn, Bolton, Pompey etc go out of business in fact if clubs didn't get off so lightly then maybe we'd see an end to the greed and financial corruption in the game.
