Welcome to the EFL. http://www.football-league.co.uk/ne...amed-the-english-football-league-2798210.aspx
"The Football League is to be re-named the English Football League as part of a comprehensive corporate and competition re-branding." Funny that, I was just saying to me mates in 7 on Tuesday before game that the problem with football these days is that it hasn't had a good comprehensive corporate and competition re-branding for ages. If only we could have a comprehensive corporate and competition re-branding then everything would be fine and dandy *******-o.
I'd always wondered what country the competition was played in. Now I know. *Except when it's played in Wales.
I think that this is a great mistake. The game was founded in our country, or at least the rules of the game were formulated in this country. The name "Football League" refers back to this history, and it means that unlike other countries, "Football League" is enough to describe the organisation that founded and runs the game in our country. Changing it removes that link to the past and makes us just like every other country.
so just to get this right. at no point, has anyone in any of the no doubt countless meetings, piped up and said "do you think it might sound a bit too much like english defence league? is that really the brand we're going for, given the history of the far-right in english football"? the mind boggles..
