As much as Davey divides opinions on here (I'm in the "no plan B" camp, here) I must say these are impressive signings. I think they show he really has grasped what's wrong with his team, and in one fell swoop has addressed the lack of pace (JCR apart) that we have been sorely missing for yonks. Mifsud played up front will scare defenders to death, young Scouser seems to have pace to burn and Andranik looks to be quick. I hope we will see a more fluid and potent force going forward now, and seem to have at last a cutting edge with Miffy the Mosquito and Boggy the Onion Bagger. Rigters, Macken and KO better get used to having a kickabout in the warm up at half time. If I was young Senor Leon I'd be getting ready checking cheap air fares to Malaga ready for something to fill his time in. In't it exciting?
I must admit... Not looked forward to a game like Saturday for a while. Let's hope it's not a let down.
RE: That's true but...... It's not a compliment to Davey that we're pleasantly surprised he can tell some of the glaring issues with the squad. Hopefully we'll get some better performances, goals and points. But Davey's weaknesses (e.g. "no plan B" and making decent players average by using them out-of-position) will still find us out.
Comical. Unless one of the new boys has a secret ability at left back, I still think he's feckin clueless as to what is wrong with his team.
Agreed, bottom line is we started this season weak anyway Davey knew Anderson was out till September, Leon wasn't gonna be able to do it week in week out. Had a bit of bad luck with the red tape surrounding Colace. And then you add to the fact that Howard would be wanting away eventually. So we started season with Howard, JCR, Devaney, Leon FOUR fit and available midfielders and the untried El Hamouir Up front Hume, Macken, Odejayi & Mostto. To be honest we are playing Macken far more than we should be, his experience is vital but should be used sparingly, instead he's played week in week out and ran into the ground to the point where some fans started to get on his back. With only Odejayi and Mostto left, who have had more than enough chances to prove they are good enough, to come in. As soon as Hume got assaulted we were screwed all hands down. I feel we started the season in defence and goal with enough cover and quality, but Davey's failure to address where we were short early in the season should injuries / transfers happen have cost us valuable points and meant we have struggled for large portions of the season. As we start February we are 5th from BOTTOM, a mere two points clear of the relegation zone. With a tough end to the season for us playing no fewer than 5 out of the top 6 and plenty of teams around top 10, we need to start picking up points ASAP. The 4 signings are Davey's last throw of the dice, if it comes off we avoid a dogfight and maintain our status with a few games to spare.Still a failure of a season i would say If they don't do the business then we'll go down or survive by the skin of our teeth, either way Davey will have failed and should be replaced in the summer. In short a minimum place of 16th is expected by me to keep him in the job for another season!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Surley the singings show that in the transfer market Davey is one of the best managers we have had, some said he had no plan B signing after missing out on Ward. But there was an a,b,c,and d all lined up as strikers.
RE: Me too. nt Yh, me too. Was gutted it was off last night (even though I could understand it). I reckon all the 4 new players will be good enough for 1st 11. And it at least makes the squad look good. 16 Championship players to choose from.
I'm looking forward to the game Saturday Got 3 decent new players, maybe Foster an Colace back, anyone know when boggy's back? I'm a fan of Macken, Disco and Leon's but id rather see them on the bench because i'd rather them come on and give a goo effort for 30 minutes as opposed to starting and running them selfs out by half time like they always seem to do, think they will perform better, especially now theres a bit of competition for place.
RE: That's true but...... I wasn't intending to be complimentary about him in any way, other than he at last has addressed a glaring problem we have had for some time by signing quality pacy players.
It was only a comment as to pace going forward! I know we're weak in areas, particularly being blessed with the worst full back I've ever seen in a reds shirt (and that includes Paul Gibbs, that's how badly I rate VH) but I was making the point that a lack of pace has counted against us as far as a cutting edge goes for too long. It's like on Life of Brian, though......."apart from a lack of pace, a proper left back, a decent pair of strikers and a solid defence what has the Davey never done for us"? "Height?" "Alright, apart from height, a lack of pace.........."etc.
I dont think that's quite fair though WRT midfield Not sure Davey would know Colace's paperwrk would take o long to clear and I think we tried to sign Andrkin (sp) pre season if not others. I dont think he anticipated JCR being out for 6? weeks either. Its OK for FM06 tinkerers etc to think we can sign the players we want, when we want but the fact of the matter is things are great a deal more complicated than most on here give thought to. Nevertheless, I am quite excited about saturday's game. If Foster and Kozluk are available we shoud be, on paper, quite strong.
