Am I the only one who feels sorry for him? He comes across a really decent bloke, has a good track record and I can see some improvements but I think yet again our owners are going to destroy yet another manager through no fault of Poya. I really want him to turn this ship around and succeed but I think he needed to be the man who we recruited in the summer and not Schopp. If we had Poya at the start? I think we’re in a much healthier position than we find ourselves now. For me we should have gone all out for Neil Warnock after we sacked Schopp. Just on a deal until the end of the season and then in the summer go and get Poya. I really do question the decision makers at the top of the club. When your in the the state we’re in you need that bit of grit and experience and Warnock has bags of that, he was the perfect man. He’d have taken us back to a style of play the players were used to playing under Big Val. I fail to see the sense in appointing Poya when we did. However, I really do hope he can turn things around as I said before he seems a top bloke and he deserves better than the dross the owners have given him to work with.
I like him and I too want him to succeed. However, as others have pointed out on different threads, repeating the same thing and expecting different results is insanity. So far he has kept the same formations, whilst using the same players who've not pulled up any trees this season. He's brought back players into the fold who never previously succeeded and ostracized the same players who have never been given a chance before. Examples: Vita keeps making the bench, but is never given a run. Why bother? Cole and Hondermarck did well recently and were then sent into exile. Aaron deserves a run, and not just a bit part, to try and develop some consistency. As for Obbi; well he's just an enigma with less than 100 appearances in 14 seasons. Truly strange.
It's all down to Poya now. Marcus couldn't draw on certain key players. And Marcus turned out to be a coach who could not motivate his squad. So I thought that it would come together before Christmas and we would start to rise. But... the last three games tell me that we aren't better than other bottom third teams. Poya has to do a Valerian, whatever the style of football we play.. hmmm.... I know what I mean, anyway..
He's not got me excited yet, thh I preferred Schopp if we're simply going on the football played. I totally get starting with defence but where's the improvement judging from the Preston goals? Seems funny that Preston managed to get new manager bounce with Lowe.. I think my worry is that I get the impression that staying up doesn't really matter to him, it's not a do it die situation. Really hope I'm wrong but I'm not getting any big Val authority vibes at all. I Hope you bump this post Friday when we've pressed and played WBA off the pitch!
On very limited evidence so far he has fewer points per game and fewer goals per game than Schopp/Laumann. But the problem is the quality of the squad.
Why does everyone think that Colin would want to join us? Seems like a no win situation for him really…..
Not saying he would want to come to Barnsley but as an ex-player he's always had fond memories of his time here.
How old is Obbi then if he has been playing 14 seasons ? that surely puts him well into his thirties , if so I am amazed we signed him .
Too much to ask to stay up this year now, let the players go who don't want to play in league 1 next year and let Poya start building now. We can have a good promotion push and comeback stronger. If we wait until the end of the season and have to start rebuilding again and searching for a new manager then league 1 will be a struggle. At present league 1 would be tough Poya needs to start preparing and forget this season, Val and Schopp have seen to that. I think Poya will be a good manager and I like him.
Schopp had a pre season and 15 games to ruin the squad. Expecting the new guy to fix it in 5 games is unfair. Also, if you think someone like Warnock could just waltz in and stop the rot immediately then you don't understand how fundamentally broken this squad is.
That makes more sense , I was only responding Sfot tykes" comments which didn"t seem quite right , cheers
I don’t. IMO he came into the job well aware of the situation. If for any reason he wasn’t, he hasn’t done the most basic of research. Still too early to judge, but so far I’ve been unimpressed by his impact. Looks largely ‘more of the same’ to me.
Schopp all over again in a different guise is my early impression. Using the same system and same failed players that haven't worked before. Why would anyone expect results to suddenly improve if we're just doing the same things? Surely 22 games into a season with only 2 wins and 13 points on the board the penny would have dropped that we need to try a different set up to see if that brings an improvement.
Nothing against him, still early days so he has a bit of time but weeks rather than Months! What is clear in my mind is an untried (no experience of English football) was exactly what we did not need at this time and part of the reason I’m close to done, the “model” is flawed we came, we tried, we persevered through several unknowns ultimately it’s failed! We lose week in week out with effort I will put up with that but nothing about the board how the club has distanced itself from the fans wants me to continue investing in a vicious circle of misery.
i doubt we’d pay his wages but the sell to any manager would be “other than 2 players this team got in the play offs last season, there is enough there to turn this around. Come and be a hero”
