Whats all this about David Hirst ???

Wayne (who posts on here) said to me today - "how many seasons did he play for us"
He didn't ....he played about 17 matches as a 17 year old
So why does he get so much attention then ???

Because he is the nearest thing to Wayne Rooney that has come out of Barnsley in my life time !!!

Absolutely incredible ability
So much so he astounded the Barnsley public at the time
He could pick the ball up from 30 yards out and in a flash it was in the back of the net
He would have been a regular in the England side if it wasn’t for injury
Man United offered £5 million for him from Wendy at a time when he was on the long term injury list
A truly exceptional talent that has only been bettered in my life time by the great Ronnie Glavin
Eric Winstanley said to me once “we were that desperate for money at the time we would have accepted anything really for Hirsty, so at £250K we snatched their hand off”
We gave him away
So why did he get booed
Because the talent was so strong - when he went to Wendy he became a local hero and from this he will always be considered a hero of Sheffield Wendy
So when he talks on the tele or on the radio he is talking about Wendy even though he is a TARN lad
Because people associate him with Wendy and not the TARN even though he came from the TARN but only spent a short time with us
But he needs to remember that we as a club remember him at the TARN

PS. I used to go out with his older sister and have been to his house when he was just a kid in Cudworth
