This board always gives me the impression that they are either blood relations to McMillan or maybe went to the same school of poetry (infants) ie given the general fornification of all things Ian. And before you ask, 'No, I'm not jealous of his 'success'(what success I ask?). How refreshing then to see he following comments on another Barnsley message board

Listen. I'm from Blackpool. My wonderful wife is Barnsley born and bred. What on GODS earth is going on with this bloke doing TERRIBLE poetry type stuff on both the BBC and SKY?? Its really embarrassing for your town, your people and your team. He is a prize prat hamming up his utter talentless garbage. Listening to that crap is like watching ones mother dance in a nightclub. Cringeworthy.

Can someone gag this fool?

Ian McMillan. The man that stereotyped Barnsley as looking like a bunch of northern yorkshire oiks.

Most people in the Barnsley area (that I know) agree. As soon as his face come's on tv the button is pressed to change to another channel. I have said befofe that I think that he should be sat on ****i Bird's statue's finger. He is making a living out of taking the p@#s out of the town and all who live here.

seems to pop out of the woodwork and associate himself with the club when we are on a good trot,funny thing is i cant recall many of his forgetable ditty's when we were in administration and at the foot of league 1 in 2002,be just my luck to have this idiot plonked right at the side of me on sunday and ****ie Bird on the other,thats a worse thought than actually losing the game,no forget that,if having these two muppets at my side guaranteed us the win sunday afternoon i would do it a sort of lay back and think of england type thing,Gunt can have them both for the final.

the prat poet, never even heard of him b4 he jumped on the premiership band wagon back in 97, like alot of others. am originally from darfield where he is apparently from, ent got a clue. why he gets this attention is beyond me - cringeworthy when he appears.

anybodys level of commitment should never be questioned and i know the bloke is a STH, so fair play to him. but ave you seen the story he tells about why he missed the play-off final 2 years ago...hmmmmmmmm - the must see games are just that. you move heaven and earth and that sometimes is what defines your support, look at mr irelands example, would not miss this for anything!!

Well said gaunt, Admired & respected worldwide & a TRUE Barnsley fan. Not mention funny & lived int tarn all his life, as for the Barnsley bard I can take him or leave him. McSeasider, Macmillan is is one of the better ambassadors for the town, you should see the locals being interviewed on Look North or Calender, some make the Dingles look respectable.

I always used to think the media deliberately looked for the perceived stereotypical Tyke but I've come to realise that generally that's how Town folk are.

Barnsley folk may have a self-deprecating sense of humour but we know that the nation laughs at us rather than with us.

LOL,hmm not sure about that charles,its an intersting point though,to tell the truth over my time watching this club i have found Barnsley folk have changed more in the last 10 to 15 years than they did for the previous 30,thats maybe something to do with the pit closures and the type of people the pits built,all i see today is a town whose people have had the heart and soul ripped out of them by goverment policys,there's a hell of alot of poverty,despair and negativity associated with living up here in 2008,the younger ones dont appear to have the same values,respect and pride for the community that previous generations had,you could say that for most places in the UK i suppose,but since the demise of skilled jobs in this country its taken away alot more than decent wages and is a far worse place to live than it once was.

trouble is when calendar and look north come calling, its during the hours of nine to five. the interviewees it has to be said - do not look like working types to me, just an opinion. am talking about the last time they came - monday after chelsea game!!! there were a couple of right brain donors who probably have not seen a reds game in their life - so they were unable to respond with a witty football cliche, LIKE AM SURE WE WOULD HAVE, lol... so they just respond with the "lets get ****ed" quote..... cannot fault em really i suppose!!

met ian in southwold last month at a show and all people had respect for him , he was proud of barnsley and prefered to take the piss out of the chelsea tractor set in southwold and burnham market

Stahlschwanz hits the nail on the head when he effectively questions whether he his making money on the back of belittling the people of Barnsley. Of course he does. He gets paid by Look North, Chron and Yorks Post to name a few for what generally helps re -infore a negative stereotype of Barnsley people and the town. If I'm being as fair as I can to Ian Mac, then I question whether he might actually realises he is doing it.

It's totally irrelevant whether he is a nice bloke, season ticket holder for last 40 years etc etc. That's not the real issue here and him being a Barnsley fan should not give him immunity from constructive critcism.
