Started watching this morning on catch-up. It was on ITV last night around midnight. I’ve not got beyond early 1966 in the story yet and Jimmy was just coming back from a long illness and struggling to get his fitness back, with the World Cup only a few months away. From being the absolute goal machine and an automatic England choice he was now a doubt and that must have been heartbreaking for him.

Still, he carried on scoring at club and country level but, as the history books show, he couldn’t get into that World Cup winning side. Watching the clips of his goals it’s notable that he scored mostly in the box and hardly ever with his head.

It’s a great watch and should interest fans of all clubs.

Recorded it last night. Before my time but looking forward to watching it. Always loved Greavsie on his Saturday lunchtime show with Ian St John.
Also read his autobiography which was very good too. Battled his demons heroically. The bloke was a national treasure.

One of those rare football men who grew up not wanting to do anything else but play football and yet in possession of a brain and a great personality. The short section on his time in Italy is an eye opener. Big mistake going there
