...So the general concensus was that Andrew Neil pretty much destroyed Osborne's credibility last night and the bits of the interview I have seen, particularly on the Turkey issue, he looked, at times like a rabbit caught in the headlights. He tried to deflect the argument onto Farage's vision of Britain etc. Whichever way you are voting it was a very poor and worrying performance given he is our current chancellor. The Guardian headline and most of the copy simply highlighted Osborne's attempt at distraction referencing 'Farage's Britain' and stated that Osborne was unflustered and calm throughout. No mention of the fact he kept trying to highlight 'leave's' scaremongering tactics!!?? Pot-kettle. Torygraph wasn't much better although it did highlight the point of the irony of Osborne complaining about scare tactics from Leave!! Real shame we have no unbaised media we can trust within the UK.
That is a huge problem - Most of the media is foreigned owned who have their own interests and agendas nothing to do with accurate debate As stated elsewhere there has been much more informed debate on here than in most of the media
Media always has a bias according to its weighting and selection of news. There is no such thing as an objective truth, only perspectives on reality. Sorry to get philosophical. That said I will defend the guardian today as I have before on here as it is not privately owned, but owned by its own trust which means it is financially and editorially independent in comparison. I believe it is where you will find the most balanced reporting , other than the BBC.
Guardian are strongly for remain- that much so they'll give a Tory chancellor an easy ride. Panic does strange things to people.
Re: The Guardian...Jeez... Hmmmmm!!... Really? Have you read the report on the Neil interview in the Guardian. The Guardian, far from being neutral, has definitely been pro-Remain from the outset. They may be "financially independent" as you say, but they are still reliant on advertisers so it is the piper who calls the tune. Also I suspect you have to look at the background and politics of the trust members. The Guardian used to be one of the last bastions of investigative and unbiased journalism but increasingly it would appear that those days are gone. I know the saying " If everybody is thinking the same, someone is not thinking" but the Guardian in this instance is so out of step with the general consensus of Osborne's "performance" as to be laughably biased in his favour.
Re: The Guardian...Jeez... Hmmmmm!!... I didn't say that they were unbiased, I said every paper has bias but that the Guardian is usually balanced. I haven't seen that article or the interview yet. The Guardian is still a bastion of investigative journalism, the latest instance being the Sports Direct scandal in the news at the moment.
Re: The Guardian...Jeez... Hmmmmm!!... Having watched the interview, despite finding Gideon to be a most unattractive personality, I thought he did rather well in climbing out of holes dug for him by the speeches of his next door neighbour. I thus think the Guardian is about right on this one, which is also something I rarely find myself expressing.
Re: The Guardian...Jeez... Hmmmmm!!... I think the current state of the media is terrible. Almost all.of it rabid right wing which I think goes to show why this debate is so close in spite of every party and the great majority of MPs in the UK campaigning for Remain . I may be wrong, but I feel it shows the power of private press agendas.
I'm a Guardian member. Though lower tier, away from the aggro... Don't want those righties making their way round to our end, just because they have been morally and intellectually battered.
Undecided dilemma solved? Andrew Neil destroyed Osborne to the point that no one could possibly vote for what he represents. The trouble is he is likely to do that to everyone he interviews from both sides - so back to the drawing board.
Not long anyway and we can all stop talking about it! Not gonna lose any sleep whichever way it goes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I believe that's called confirmation bias. The Guardian is about as balanced as The Mirror or on the other side The Daily Mail or Express.
Agree with that. I reckon IDS will do ok as he can come across as unflustered in interview to me, but I reckon I'll be wincing watching him with Farage tomorrow.
The BBC is hardly unbiased either, Newsnight is run by ex-Guardian people, their Scotland Editor is the ex-Labour leader's daughter, and they created a new job for ex-Labour minister James Purnel, for £300,000 a year
