bites. We've had to cut our cloth, i.e. Shackell sold, no expensive loans available (Tripper, Harewood etc) Its probably down to Cryne not wanting to throw anymore money down the drain. Clearly this is why Robins left. We appoint Hill and Croft in the hope they can replicate the magic they worked at Rochdale, but in the Championship, with a mid tier League One budget. A huge risk, but what other choice do we have? None. We can't really do anything but get behind Hill and Croft but sadly this feels like we are heading for a disaster and they are getting caught in the head lights. Can't blame them, its a big ask to keep us in the league, playing good football, with no money. Money talks and we haven't got enough. Sorry to be so bleak but I think we are good as down already.
The harsh reality is we seemingly can't afford to do what it takes to stay in this league, and I doubt we can afford to be relegated either.
I am inclined to agree so lets all face up to this reality and just deal with it, 40 years following the boys and some ya win, some ya don't. I envy Manilto who has the option of staying away (although I would not) rather than go and cheer the reds on win lose or draw, if struggle and go down, so be it, it is only three games in and we are not bottom, lets get behind them, those who can go, and see what happens, you never know!!
I can't disagree with what you say Chef Tyke, it will take a 'cup final' effort from our players every game this season just to prevent the season being over in January. I don't think Haynes will be long before he jumps ship. We have got to be realistic 10,000 crowds can not and will not sustain a competitive championship side. I didn't go tonight because I knew I'd be paying to be disapointed, I've come away from too many matches over the last few seasons wishing I had not bothered. Like Mr Cryne I love Barnsley, but Oakwell is not a charity.
Still not scored. Mr Hill, fook this 1 up front ***** off pronto if you still want to be barnsley manager come October!
Chef tyke, i couldnt agree more with your sentiments, unfortunately the harsh truth is that we have over achieved and relied heavily on PC's personal wealth, without it we are not a big enough Club to survive on its revenue, especially in the strongest championship to date.
It seems as though a decision has been taken at some point to accept that we cannot afford to be in this league. I don't blame Hill, he's doing what he's been asked to do.
Alternative View And I haven't been to a game yet so could be talking absolute rubbish! We've played three teams that will be challenging for the top six come the end of the season and have come unstuck. The reality always was, and still is, to finish above Peterborough, Donny, Watford, Palace and Coventry, and nothing has really changed. We probably need another couple of players, who might not materialise, but reality is we still need time to gel and Keith Hill still needs time to get his ideas across and work this league out. Too early to cast us as relegation certainties when we haven't had the chance to play one of the poorer teams and build some confidence.
Re: Alternative View Couldn't even beat morecambe at home, lets smell the coffee eh? you saying theres 3 worse teams than us in this league? i wouldnt take that bet on current form al tell thy! I really hope im wrong and we pick up but looking at the fixtures till October could already see us cast adrift at the bottom if we keep pissing about like this. 1 up front at home, now that really is pissing about!
Re: Alternative View reckon on current showing that Watford (H) is the only game that MAY have points in it before October. By October it could be played 9, points 2. Long way back from there.
Re: Alternative View You're talking absolute rubbish mate. I listened to Barry Murphy's post match assessment tonight. A man that does his utmost to find positives in some of the most shocking Barnsley games. Never heard him so down beat! We need to bring some quality players in. And more than just a couple!
