http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topsto...ht-38-is-co-pilot-john-coward-89520-20290285/ What he did was very good, but why exactly are people saying he should get a medal? Is the job of the pilot not to ensure the people on the plane arrive safely, thus he would get a medal for doing his job?
his job is to make sure people arrive safly on a fully functioning plane, he deserves a medal because he stayed calm and prevented thousands of potential deaths
But is to stay calm under pressure and prevent deaths expected of him anyway? They seem to want to praise anyone these days. It's like when people get in the Queens birthday honours list for doing very little.
It probably is expected but the odds of it happening are so slim, its hard to tell wether most pilots would actually be able to cope in the same situation, this man has proved that he can and there for deserves to be praised
The guy should get a medal as big as a dustbin lid........ the entire crew were simply brilliant, cool, calm and professional, the leading stewardess made sure everyone got off the plane and then went to the flight deck to check on the flight crew before leaving the plane herself, heroes all.
Why do soldiers get medals then - it's there job after all! I think the view is, that given what happened then more casualties would probably have been expected, there was a major road close by, yes he used his training but to revert to that and keep so calm under that sort of pressure is amazing.
Professional footballers are supposed to remain calm in front of goal Doesn't stop them blazing it over the bar from 2 yards, or hitting a penalty over the bar does it?
