    Hi Guys,

Don't post on here too often, but today I need your help!

Some of you may recognise the name 'Holin Hammerton' as he was a huge influence in many peoples lives, including mine!

Holin was a music teacher at Darfield Foulstone School for over 30 years and loved seeing young people progress through music. After retiring from school, Holin devoted all of his time to music in the community and continued with the bands and organisations he had already set up.

Sadly, Holin died in 2010, but the bands and organisations have carried on in his name to promote music and get young children involved in music in the local area.

With you help, (clicking on a link and giving your email) we have a chance at getting the most votes through Lloyds bank, which in turn would give the organisations £3,000 to spend! Doesn't sound like a lot, but it would make a load of difference to the current set up and encourage more children in the area.

Sorry to bore on, but there are two ways to vote, either by text (charged at standard network rate, no additional fee) or online by clicking this link and then clicking on a confirmation link which will be sent to your email.

We need as many votes as we can, so please if you could spare a minute then I would be very appreciative.

    Thanks guys!

    YOUUUUU REEDDDSSSS! :)

This might be a silly question but why is the Barnsley youth band in Oldham?

I still remember his music lessons from almost 30 years ago now. He is one of the few teachers I can still remember from my time at Foulstone, and I was even given the chance to try and learn an instrument. Unfortunately I could get feedback out of a clarinet and it was taken off me before I broke it :)

Done. Holin was a great teacher in a sea of mediocrity at the Foulstone. I had little musical talent but he was always encouraging and band camp to Filey was educational...

Done. I went to Foulstone and remember Holin playing the piano Les Dawson style in some assemblies, much the the annoyance of the then Headteacher Mr Shaw. He did things his way and got a lot of respect for it! Top bloke.

Just want to say a big thanks for everyone who has voted so far! Wasn't expecting so many people to know him or have memories of him.

Also, a polite reminder (as it wouldn't let me edit) that you can text and vote online. If you have more than one email address, you could also register different emails :)

Thanks all! I owe you all a pint!! :D

Didn't go to Foulstone but played cricket with Holin at Darfield CC early '80's. Was a good bloke, although his batting was that slow he made Boycott look like Viv Richards!!

Happy to help. I was fortunate to be in the same class at Holgate as Holin. A real good guy.
