....as Patrick, Don and Simon head into THE loft. Patrick : What is it that you are looking for ? Simon : I'll know when I see it. Don : Wow ! What a lot of stuff. There's bound to be something useful up here. Patrick : Well I think this lot are out of our price range. They'd want too much in wages and grooming expenses.. Don : Not these either. That one at the back looks like it's been knitted. That'd be no good, remember Kevin Donovan - he was always unravelling. Patrick : Three balls, they'll come in handy next season. Don : I think we've signed enough lower league zoo animals already. Simon : There it is ! That's what I've been hunting for all along. Patrick : Eeeeee that takes me back a few years. They all look like Johnny Kelly ! Simon : Yes, and if we bought the ones painted red we could save on strips. Don : Do you not think there might be mobility issues ? After all they are all on springs stuck into the ground. Simon : Ideal ! Then they'll have to play where I tell them to. No running off down the wing on a whim. Can I have them please Patrick, please, please ? Patrick : Well, I'm not sure. You got Leon last year and you soon lost interest in him.
I had one of those In the early 60s, even older than your version I reckon. I'm sure mine had more players on the pitch and the goals were wooden with a ball bearing type ball that made a satisfying BANG when it hit the back of the net. Wish I'd kept it
RE: I had one of those I'm quite sure health and safety wouldn't allow 'toys' like that these days. It's quite lethal ! THe ball bearings have been replaced by glass marbles. Some of the players' springs are not very springy anymore.
