Reading between the lines, this is my opinion of this season so far

I think PC and SD tried to sign a few strikers last summer but were unable to because of various reasons
Phillips being the main target they missed out on.
PC went on record at the end of last season saying we need at least two new strikers
So its obvious to all including PC and SD what is wanted so you cant fault them on this.

They brought in Hume, but for me he isn't an out an out striker of the type we need - would Morgan have hit someone built in the Kuqi mold and have got away with it - dunt think so
They brought in Rigters who I would imagine was not fully fit and has yet to live up to expectations

So we are still desperate for an old fashioned centre forward and a couple of others to enable SD to chop and change the strike force during a match. At the moment he has no options.
Most Championship clubs run with at least 4 strikers, we have got only one - Macken.

Goalkeeper, defence and midfield are more or less sound...........but our strike force, not just this season, but for the past few seasons has been abysmal

Of course it's SD's fault - he's the Manager ...........

..... and he's the one who wasted a million on OddJob, Christiansen and Mostto and brought in that donkey Righters from Blackburn for 12 months.

If it's not his 'fault' that he has failed to sign a decent striker, how can it be his 'good judgement' that brought in Muller, DeSilva, Campbell-Ryce etc.

He can't have it both ways, either he signs the players, and stands or falls by that, or he doesn't!!

How can it not be Daveys fault?? He has been in charge long enough, he bought the Strikers we have now!!!! Come on you people and wake up, he is buying players from lower leagues that cant cut the mustard at this level and he is fully accountable!
If we get relegated about you chant Davey out!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't trust him to buy my shopping from Tesco ....

......... he'd come back with some expensive cheese that tastes like ****, but it might taste fantastic in 3 years, once it gets used to my fridge

I had to read this twice, I just couldn't believe what was being said. Still think it could be a wind up. If it isn't Daveys fault then who the fooks fault is it? He bought the fecking shower of **** that we have up front and has continually failed to deliver with a striker buying **** time and time again. Of course it's his bloody fault and every body other than the odd 1 or 2 can see it. He is the manager and continually failing to bring in the right staff would mean the sack in any other job. In my opinion if he doesnt get it right up front this time he should be sacked. He's had enough chances and wasted enough money.

For a young manager with little experience of the transfer market I reckon he's done well...

Of course its easier totarget the bad buys, but therehas beengood ones too... and the hardest one's to sign are goalscorers...

Every Manager makes bad buys... even the best of em...

You say he's wasted a million but he's achieved his objectives with a set budget

If he's given a st amount of money to spend to do his job and he achieves it then thats fair enough by me.

of course we want a 20 goal a season striker but so does every club in the country. How many strikers actually score more than 20 league goals? How many other clubs want to buy the ones that do?

Isn't his objective for this season a top half finish? ....

...... not certain of achieving that so far is he?

Like I said in a previous message...............

If Davey had got £10 Millon to spend on strikers he wouldn't be in Spain would he
He could bring in Kev Phillips and another 1 or 2 like him

But Davey has been VERY limited money he can spend
You can pick defenders and midfielders up relatively cheaply.........but players that can score goals are valued much much more expensively
Hence we have players that play good football..........totally dominate matches...........and lose one nil

Which is why he can't afford to waste a million ...............

....... on OddJob, Christienson & Mostto, especially as the first one has had 60+ games and couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo, and the last two never got a chance

I would say his objective is avoiding relegation and his target is comfortable mid table

And if your saying his objetcive is top half then he is only 3 points off that. Anyway that is a pointless argument as we won't know until the end of the season, as many people pointed out when we were bottom in October and used our form over 2008 as an excuse to sack him.

Football seasons run from August to May and it is on that a manager should be judged. Each year our points total has improved. Year on year improvement is the foundation for success

I thought Mr Cryne set his objective as a top half finish ..

...... this season, but like you say, we can't judge him on that until after Plymouth away.

At this point I'd gladly accept 4th from bottom again, with no forwards in the squad, and only 6 points above the drop zone with donny & forest on the up

Odejayi, crap or otherwise covered all that million with his goal agianst Chelsea

Plus word is Davey had Christensen forced on him. Plus I don't what you expect from Odejayi when he only cost £200k. He was only ever going to be a squad player who we'd taken a chance on. if it had come off you wouldn't be complaining. At least he didn't cost £2m and was crap

If he had been used as a squad player id agree but he has played 60 games for us when you could see he was dog **** after 20, Davey should have replaced him last jan and yes he scored against Chelsea which he will always be remembered for but he is quite clearly not good enough even as a squad player

Well we're closer to top half than releagtion despite losing our £1.25m striker

I think to be fair mate the relaitvely low amount of money spent on the others meant they were always gambles. I know you could argue we should have spent all that money on one player but that is a massive risk, just look at Hume's injury. You need a squad and to be fair although VERY rare KO and Mossto have socred winning goals and are only squad players

A £ million on THREE strikers .........thats the problem in a nutshell

You can not buy THREE British based Championship level players for £1 million and expect them to do well.

That is why Davey is looking abroard..........and hoping that the players he brings in can adapt to the English game.
Obviously Christensen and Mostto failed to do that.
The British based striker brought in at that time has also failed.

But at the time of these purchases we didn't have ANY strikers at the club........ except Richards and Wright (doh)
All this stems back to Ritchie
Davey will openly admit that he hoped that if only one of the strikers brought in turned out to be a good un then it would have been classed as a success
Unfortunatly none of them did..........it was a case of - cheap panic buying

When Davey has had more time to consider strikers more carefully he hasn't done that badly..........Macken, Hume, Cureton
And even Rigters given time may turn out to be ok, although got to say he hasn't done anything yet
