"Why are they selling poppies, mummy? Selling poppies in town today? The poppies, child, are flowers of love For the men who marched away. But why have they chosen the poppy, mummy? Why not a beautiful rose? Because, my child, men fought and died In the fields where poppies grow. But why are the poppies so red, mummy? Why are the poppies so red? Red is the colour of blood, my child, The blood that our soldiers shed. The heart of the poppy is black, mummy Why does it have to be black? Black, my child is the symbol of grief For the men who never came back. But why mummy, are you crying so? Your tears are giving you pain My tears are for you, my child For, the world is forgetting again" Author unknown
how true that is all the things the soldiers fought for in those wars are under attack by people who probably havn't necessarily forgot but don't realise what they actually were, the nhs, social housing, the right to share the profits/benefits from the earths resources etc
I saw it on Stephen Baileys facebook and stole it, I can take no credit at all. I knew you would like it though !!
I'm going to post My own contribution tomorrow morning before eleven o'clock, but I doubt it will be as classy or poignant as that one, mate. I love it. By the way, have you seen Steve's piccie of himself from years ago on there??
